Also a silly question because undoubtedly this changes on a regular basis, but enough procrastination; I put forth:

Water Curses

I can't think of another artist who have created an EP which contains a song which is arguably their greatest single creation. After a gravitating little intro we are thrust into lively and bouncy melody which is frankly just delightful. How anyone could not smile to this is beyond me. The arrangement of the track is very playful and poses gratifying structural questions and answers. The song resolves into its own unique crescendo, and after witnessing such immense awesomeness one is left feeling grateful that it's followed by the very worthy and almost sobering 'Street Flash'

Now, lets hear yours (and the reason why)

So, I left it for a couple of years and now I've come back to it, I've got to say it's grown on me. Interesting and quite relaxing sound scapes, and I dig their creativity. The most severe of these is Cuckoo. It almost physically sickens me. Also on the list is The Living Toys and Bleed (Unsolved Mysteries could be in that category, but I have fallen too deep in love with it to save myself. and Street Flash triggers acid flashbacks so I listen to it cautiously.)

Surely I am not the only person who has experienced this? anybody?
So Carrots is probably one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time, if not my number one favorite. I get the feel that he is talking about how people used to make fun of him for making his music, and how other people think they are better than others for dumb reasons. When he says " Whats the point in pouring it all out, when you guys just wear it on your coats, I believe that for this piece of time, we can really crank us up alot" he means that people ( other artists) seem to " let all of their emotions out" just to get attention and to get people to listen to their music. Any one else have any ideas about this master piece of a song? I also think that more people should hear it and it is really under rated. probably one of the most meaningful songs/ best made, to me at least.

Firstly, greetings to one and all. I've been meaning to find an Animal Collective forum for ages now, so finally got my arse into gear this weekend - mainly because I've (at long last) just watched ODDSAC.

I'd say I've been a pretty avid AC fan for about 3 years now but I was slightly dubious about the whole ODDSAC concept (didn't think I'd enjoy the visuals etc.) and it was always really expensive when I looked so kept putting it off. Anyway, bought it in the end and I'm absolutely blown away with it - it's far surpassed my expectations.

Musically I enjoyed 'Screens', 'Tantrum Barb' and 'What Happened' the most. 'Tantrum Barb' is such a delightful high after enduring the long psychedelic visualization sequence in 'Urban Creme', and I though 'What Happened' was an exhilarating ending. Visually, I think the opening sequence with the fire dancers, and the camp/marsh mallow & vampire scenes made me smile the most.

Sorry that my first post is just me rambling about AC.. but none of my friends like them so, meh.

It is I believe, the modern day example of tribal music. And as such it has an almost spiritual hold over me especially in the climaxes, the lifts make me feel almost possessed.

I'd like to hear how other people feel about this song and the images it brings to mind and possibly what people think Avey tare sings within the song as there are no lyrics for the track anywhere on the internet and therefore i imagine not on the album itself either.

Being an avid supporter of Open Source technologies, I only have Linux computers lying around. This is a guide to help people with this situation.

1.) Find Wine 1.5, the important thing here is to make sure it is 1.5+. I tried with the 1.4 that comes native on my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS install and that would not work.
1.) Debian
1.) Follow the instructions here... http://www.noobslab.com/2012/04/install-wine-152-on-ubuntu.html
2.) OSX
1.) Delete OSX and Install Linux ( I keeeeeeed ;) )
2.) http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/

2.)
This is a look into the new ep. If you want to wait for until its proper release and don't want any "spoilers", then be warned, as I'm going to examine each of the four songs.

Much like last year's Strawberry Jam, this small collection of songs are awesomely titled. Water Curses is a great name, and if you know Animal Collective, you'll instantly understand this. The name Strawberry Jam just fits AC so well, and particularly that stage of their journey as musicians. I can't really put into words why, but just everything about the name is perfect. The same applies to Water Curses. The songs here are pretty much the leftovers of SJ, except for one of the four, which was recorded recently. Overall, the epis a much slower and more relaxed collection of songs than SJ, and I'd argue it's more like the older stuff. A lot of people have drawn connections to it and their work between 2004 and early 2006. But it's definitely still audible that the work here was created in the SJ era, as many of the same qualities are evident.

The opener, titled "Water Curses" starts with an octave note of what could be a manipulated guitar or a synthesizer. It bends and grumbles with a crackling/bubbling sample and eventually bursts into the first verse with a melodic synthesizer (which could be a continuation of the sound that started the song) and excited percussion. Avey's voice sounds a little different from what it normally sounds like. It sounds more hushed. The verse boasts an interesting twist in the melody of his vocals. Samples blurt on and off throughout the song to add to the atmosphere. The chorus is a playful up-and-down melody with a high-pitched synth that sounds like it's straight from a circus. Overall, the song took a while to love, but I eventually got there. It's by far the fastest song and also the loudest on this ep.

"Street Flash" was played live a lot during their recent tour. It's a definite shift toward mellowness and near-minimalism away from the first track, and it spans nearly seven minutes, making it the longest track on the ep. A very simple, delayed triad guitar chord ascends and drops again to the first chord, and Avey's jumps in with "Does anyone in here get hit with inside fever, so bad sometimes you talk to move around..." There are a slew of typically-AC-perfect-fit samples and effectified vocals that make the song an AC song. The one that I like best is the manic laugh, that at first doesn't sound like a voice at all, but rather like an old screechy door opening. There is a high-pitched note repeated on what sounds like a warped piano. And then there's the "Waaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh" scream that lasts for at least 5 seconds. That one's nice too. It's a nice song to listen to. It's kind of lullaby-like melodically, with beautifully sustained vocals, and even instrumentally, at some points.

Quirky percussive elements and a briefly crescendoing organ start off "Cobwebs". After a little bit of the first verse, rim shots jump in and the song starts to pick up. Panda's always-beautiful backup vocals support the song and it eventually reaches it's most prominent line: "We're not going underground". Then an ambient pad with little subtleties hidden within that combine to form a wall of sound break off the previous tempo, and a cathartic burst of the word "Cobwebs" repeats a few times. In between the shouts, there's a little vocal line, backed by an electronic string-instrument that vibrates harshly. The song trails off, back to the previous sound, with subtle background vocals and sounds, which eventually are greeted by the flowing piano that introduces the next song.

"Seal Eyeing" is the ep's last song, and it continues the album's mostly mellow tone. It feels like you're underwater and half asleep. The piano seems delayed, but I think it's manually delayed, as each subsequent repetition of the piano notes don't always match the previous notes. The song creeps along and it feels like you're moving but not really, or that the things underwater around are moving, but not going anywhere. They always remain in sight. It is as if you are in a fish bowl, limited somehow in dimension, but you're not completely sure of this because you are so small in this underwater world. It feels like a song of reflection, of contemplation, where you are thinking deeply about something, but when asking yourself what it was about, you draw a blank.

It's a nice little ep. It's nothing monumental, but it is perfectly timed, as all of us AC fans have been craving material since SJ. I cannot wait to see what the guys do next, but I know they won't let us down.

Out.

i read an interview with avey and geologist here: (http://www.identitytheory.com/audio/ross_animal.php)

where avey lists off several influences from books and films. thank god for netflix cuz they were very obscure and most of them were veryvery good. "valerie's week of wonders" especially. so i just wanted to throw that interview out there for anyone who hasnt seen it yet and also ask if anyone else knows some more of the band's influences or could recommend some good movies i might otherwise have never heard of.

Hello all! I need some help. I'm a senior in high school and I'm looking for a senior quote to put in the yearbook. I really want to do something from Animal Collective. So do any of you have any suggestions? I was thinking of something pretty easy to understand with a good message, but definitely unique. I have a few ideas already, but I'd love some input. Thanks!
