I think I'm the only active member at the moment who lives around LA, but we've had quite a few in the past who have disappeared. Flying Lotus and a Mongolian throat singing band is playing too! I'm thinking about buying a ticket without telling any of my friends and going alone. It'll feel like reclaiming what was once mine. That probably sounds really weird and arrogant. But it's just a few people I don't want to go with, a few people I would be happy to go with...HMM

That's why I wanna talk pros and cons. If this offends anybody I'm sorry and one of us will just dekete the thread.

ok. I think Geologists sounds he plays will go down as his thing. The goat noises and bird noises and other noises. I love how they use the same sounds on different albums. It's fun to connect the dots.

As a critisism I get dissopinted During "Hey Light" on here comes the indian when they just stop playing as if its accidental. All that built up energy for confusion. They maybe should have just gone straight into the vocal barbershop style part.

So I just picked up my tickets to go to this show this morning when they went on sale at 10 am. Is anyone else from here going to this show?! I'm wondering if AC has played there before. Based on it's website, it appears that Mr. Smalls is a venue that specializes in live audio/video recording, which leads me to believe that this particular show may be recorded for purposes yet to be known. The capacity is only 650 too so it's definitely a small place which really excites me. But yeah, just trying to see if anyone is going to this show. My girlfriend and I are (hopefully) getting a hotel for the night so trying to gauge if there are cool people to chill/party with before and after the show seeing as this will be my first time in Pittsburgh!

I didn't attend the Webster Hall show on Saturday, but I did attend the Brooklyn Masonic Temple show last night. Wow! Don't sleep on this tour! (Off to Europe next...) He's been playing these songs for over a year now and they sound HUGE. I loved, loved, loved the Governor's Island show last year, but this was completely different. The segues, the build ups, jams, etc.

Never having been to the Brooklyn Masonic Temple and having read the place get killed on yelp.com, I had very low expectations. Maybe it was undersold because of the Webster Hall show, but we found the venue to be comfortable and spacious. We went upstairs to the balcony and got 2nd row center seats - directly facing the stage. Looking down at the floor, it never looked crowded. You could walk around pretty much anywhere.

Anyway...Noah and fellow knob twiddler (name?) made the place sound huge with all sorts of sound manipulations. Noah was in great voice...and was absolutely KILLING on pop masterpieces such as Surfer's Hymn and Last Night at the Jetty. Last Night at the Jetty is as close as he's come to writing his own God Only Knows...and that's a big compliment. That is one sophisticated, spiritual, inspired piece of melody writing.

I told the security guard going in that this would probably be the most well behaved audience he's worked. He told me he was working a mosh-pit the night before. Ha... People are
pretty reserved at these shows. Some dancing, bobbing heads...but lots of people just
kind of standing there. (Hey...everybody enjoys a show in their own way.) It was kind of
weird when opening act The Present ended their (droney/spacey set) and there was
no crowd reaction. Everyone just standing there like zombies looking at them. They started
breaking down their gear and I kind of felt a little bad for them. But they weren't exactly
waving at the audience either.

Danny Perez's visuals were totally on point. Edgy at times (Great White sharks and zombie looking creatures) but then they'd turn abstract again. Very good stuff. My one complaint was the overuse of the strobes. They were a bit distracting/disorienting in this small venue. I pulled my hat down over my eyes for a good part of the slow.

Anyway...my wife and I raged HARD from our seats in the balcony. I really hope there's a recording of this show or somewhere from this tour. It really shows how far these songs have developed since he first unveiled them over a year ago.

I love Geologists presence on stage. He seems like a calming presence, a reassuring presence in the chaos that he himself helps create. Avey seems focused on the energy of the atmosphere and his vocal delivery, and experimenting with melodies. His voice is definitely his main instrument. Panda looks focused and means business. Deakin is a naive and at times enthusiastic presence in the band. It was founded in the wake of Belle and Sebastian’s Bowlie Weekender, with Mogwai curating in the unusual setting of Pontins Holiday Camp, Camber Sands. Since then the festival has appeared every year and has expanded across the globe continuing to set itself apart from large scale corporate festivals by staying intimate and fan-friendly. The line-ups are chosen by significant bands or artists which results in eclectic events that combine performances by legendary and influential acts with appearances by the latest crop of experimental artists from any (and every) musical genre. The festival has become more successful with every passing year, and ATP events have taken place in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia, with past curators including Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Mike Patton, My Bloody Valentine, Portishead, Sonic Youth, Slint, and Tortoise. This year ATP launches a new series of curated city-based events called I'll Be Your Mirror, starting in Tokyo in February, London in July and most recently announced in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

For ten years ATP has set itself apart from other festivals by embracing seemingly disparate artistic genres, with events featuring art exhibitions, cinema programmes, spoken word performances and stand up comedy. It's been called 'Unforgettable' by Spin and 'the most enjoyable festival experience of our reporter's life' by Pitchfork. It has spawned an acclaimed concert series (Don't Look Back), a record label (ATP Recordings), and the release of a feature length documentary about the festivals from Warp X, titled All Tomorrow’s Parties, out now on DVD. He does run one of the coolest acts I ever got to clown in .
The extra sonic depth comes from him tho' I think . I just spin plates while he tames lions & eats fire & stuff . He even rides bare-back at the end of the show on 2 blue unicorns . quite nice .
chances of meeting ? I have no idea . me ? i lurk around , i'll watch some of the bands . Noah ? he usually likes to keep pretty chill . u never know though... chill is as chill does , so2 spk.
have a good one pk xx
