I will probably see Avey/Animal Collective for the first time since I became a fan of Animal Collective, but to be able to see Avey in the Twin Cities, December 7th at the Triple Rock. But now that I recall the Triple Rock is going to be 18+ for most. Why why not 16+!
Say-Hoo-Ray, For everyone else in the upper midwest of age.
Yes!!! Shows at Eagle Rock are usually all ages (maybe they always are? I don't know). I will for go for sure. I'm a little surprised though, I thought he said he'd never tour Down There cause it was too painful...maybe it's new stuff? Also, I don't know why I never watched the Oliver Twist video. It's awesome. I'm pretty sure I only ever like animated music videos.
He'll ROB you. He'll take your soul and make it into a paper mache hat. Then he'll wear it. And he'll sing Season of the Witch, but in a 40-minute long dirge-jam.
I would think he's playing out new solo stuff, that's my bet. I'm so glad that Shinsy and SingSung and Dereek and who else? G.O? That so many of y'all will get to see him. Not me or the ATL boys, though. Rats!
this is from Collected Animals from someone who went to one of the recent Avey shows
my friend erika got to frantically ask him some questions tonight and she said i could fill you all in. i'm too tired to put this in a coherent order, so enjoy these random facts:
one of his favorite new songs for AC is "let go" which he referred to as "shaker." he said when they're coming up with new songs they usually name them after friends from school, so presumably that's someone's name. (it could be a temporary title, like "song for ariel.") he also really likes noah's song ("take this weight"). they're recording 15 songs, not all of which will go on an album. (some will be an EP, like they usually do.) noah has one more song that they haven't played yet. dave doesn't know if it'll go on the album or not, and basically said "we'll see what happens with it." my friend asked if they'd be working with sonic boom to produce the album and he said no, and that they'll be working with ben allen again. they've got no plans to work with danny on anything in the near future.
someone said they really liked choco girl from 2009, and dave said he'd also like to rework LA RAPET from the same album. (i'm dying as she tells me this). she asked if he'd like to rework anything else from sung tongs, and he said they were getting tired of playing "winter's love" and they want to rework MOUTH WOOED HER for the next tour (i came back to life and died again when she said this).
she told him that in 2009 noah told us that they lost some cable that went with a sampler that they were using for "bluish" so that's why they didn't play it. dave said he didn't know that that was true, and that it was just too mellow to fit in that set with the MPP songs.
SingSungTongs: My last final is friday too driving up from Santa Barbara... the LA show is going to be sick! It seems as though the Washington Post gave his show a pretty bad review, but I don't believe it....
there was some guy i talked to after the show that said he had to work and got there FIVE MINUTES from the end... poor little guy! ... he was a MEGA FAN too (and so groovy to talk to!)
also i met SOUND SCIENCE and he was a groovy little guy too!
and talking to Avey ... being a bit too buzzed/drunk hehe!
hopefully he wasn't TOO weirded out!
he's saying now next AC album won't be til end of 2012...
gah... hopefully he's projecting it too far the other way...
cuz lord knows if it got pushed back to early 2013 / a 4 year gap!
and i think there are no plans to have there be an EP of studio new / old down there out-take songs? i don't know...
i don't really know what to make of the new songs not having heard them!
and then just 4 songs from DOWN THERE! (but they were all groovy!)
very different type of show... so short though!
he came out at the end for people wanting ONE MORE SONG to say he didn't have another song but thanks for wanting one... which was charming!
so weird that i saw deeks solo 2010... avey solo 2011... yet never panda solo!
and both the 2 in the same place i saw AC back in 2005!
I saw AnCo at Pitchfork this past summer.. and I saw Avey Tare in Chicago just earlier this week. He had five or so songs from Down There and the rest were new, so so good !
I'm glad that GO at least got to go and see Avey. I'm glad one of us did! I was a little bummed it didn't time out better so I could've caught the man in Baltimore!
