I read in the morning paper that Skrillex is playing a sold out show here tonight, and he's been nominated for a bunch of Grammys (Grammies?),so whilst drinking my coffee I listened to some of his tracks. I didn't hear anything that I haven't heard before, especially the elements that came out of the rave scene, but perhaps I am missing something? What adjectives are used to describe Mister Skrillex and that genre?
boy is he hated (and no wonder! just LOOK at the damn guy!)
haha!
supposedly it is BROstep!
which is kind of amusing
i had never even heard a damn song by him before but man
that was pretty groovy!
i love digiManipulation...
of vox
and sounds just going bonkers all over the place really twisted with
it's taking elements of weirder / left field troniks and putting them to mainstream dancey styles... so that's kind of cool...
kinda like how pop stars get super crazy background stuff going on with weird effexors that i love and in theory people shouldn't like it for being too weird if they don't like weird stuff but if it is in a mega star's pop song sure that's fine whatever!
Not much to like with Skittlez X, but he is popular, so he's in it for the cash in my opinion.
Yuk) That music vid is pretty nice, but the song just seemed cheesy for some reason. Needed something memorable besides "call 911 now".
Dubstep is just a genre in which everything sounds very similar ex. (Country, Reggae, any top 40 pop music) stuff like that. Not that reggae or dubstep is bad or anything, its just hard to make albums with these genres.
i really do hate dubstep, and i ESPECIALLY hate it because all my friends love it and always go to loads of concerts and i don't go because its not my taste in music, so i miss out on awesome social events because of a fake genre of music ! my mates love it because they can't physically stretch they're musical minds and find a genre that's right for them instead they just listen to this rip off bullshit ! and i doubly despise skrillex ! wow i sound like a right bitch !
For what it's worth, Animal Collective's new version of "Taste" is heavily influenced by dubstep. Just as the Dead did disco really fucking well (Shakedown Street rocks), I think a lot of it comes down to who's making the music. There's good aural ideas in a lot of things, dubstep included.
Groupthink. Herd mentality. People like being in groups, people like having opinions, people really like having polarizing opinions, and so what started as mild distaste rapidly became hatred. It's a social thing. I don't care for his music, but because I don't really have any interaction with people who listen to it and because I'm kind of oblivious to social trends, I don't care. His name conjures... frying pans. Seriously.
