Musical Burnout
Tweet
  • Music has become such a constant to me (because I love it so much), as I spend a lot of time listening to music/spinning it around in my brain, that sometimes I just burn out and can enjoy no music. I just stop.

    Not even...gasp!...Animal Collective.

It's good and bad, good because it stops me from over-listening to a record and losing my love for it. And you know the bad.

Anyone else suffers from this terrible malady?
  • Yes! I do suffer from this. Its like when a drug addict can't feel the same high anymore. I hate it when it happens because sometimes music is the only thing I can enjoy.
  • Yes, but only on a daily basis. If I'm driving without company for like 6-7 hours and listening to music all the time there's not a lot else to concentrate on (apart from the road maybe!) so yeah, can get intense then I might sick of music.

But it doesn't spill over into the next day.
  • I seem to have achieved antibodies against this malady by having interesting things to listen to when I do not have "othermade" music on. Lots of open windows and birds and often VERY LOUD head noise.
I get really delighted when I realize I have been dancing to the music in my head. It means I'm super happy. (Turn up the music and dance!!!)
    (In your head!!!)
(you look crazy but in a way that does not frighten the horses)
  • i'll be listening to shuffle on my ipod and wont be feeling it, so i'll go to a song i really like at the time and i wont even enjoy myself at all. i think this happens to all music enthusiasts
  • I can get board of ANY music if I go on a music binge or something over the course of a week. Sometimes I won't listen to my favorite albums on purpose so that they stay fresh, but I wouldn't say I make music "burn out". I'll find a new way to listeen to it or maybe find a new thing to do while listening to music. I also like playing albums at multiple levels of volume so that I can hear all the sounds of an album (MPP is awesome this way).
  • RE: different volumes- totally yes and on different stereos (truck, iPod, computer, iPad, stereo with two speakers, portable stereo)
Wow I didn't realize I had so many listening to music options.
  • My favorite way to listen to music now is full 7 channel stereo while i'm lying down on the floor/carpet.
  • OOOOOHHHHH yessssssss it's like FULL BODY BASS
