Most Incredible Experience While Listening to AC

edited August 2010 in Animal Tracks
Here are mine: 1. Driving down the highway on a stunningly beautiful day in a convertible with the most gorgeous boy I have ever in all my years seen and he puts in MPP and In the Flowers is blasting and I'm screaming and he's screaming.... 2. Standing in the steamy hot summerness of Brooklyn and AC starts playing the original What Would I Want Sky (not the released version) and this cool breeze blows over the crowd and we all suddenly get really high... 3. Screaming the lyrics to Summertime Clothes along with a couple hundred kids at the Oxford, Mississippi show... 4. Listening to Brothersport today on my way to work.

• 1. Listening to 'Spirit' on vinyl while sitting on the floor infront of my record player and knitting. 2. Listening to Feels with a person incredibly special to me. 3. Listening to MPP while doing my 'daily routine'. your on a roll with great topic ideas! I love your number 1 and have to express jealousy that you've seen the guys.
• topic idea = win. 1. Driving over a bridge with the most beautiful boy in the world listening to peacebone. 2. Sitting in the middle of thousands of people on a glorious sunny day at the gorge listening to my girls and watching dave, noah and brian do their thang. 3. Sitting on my floor completely high listening to leafhouse with the person I love most.

• I was trying to think of one.. I've never had such great open experiences listening to them cause they're not hugely popular in Aus. But I remember the first time (after searching them because the lead singer of Mew mentioned them) I heard them it was Leaf House and Water Curses and I was converted instantly. They've totally changed who I am and how I think and see things. Its like the world with them in it is just 10x bigger and more remarkable and interesting/twisted. I love their music to death and everytime I hear their sounds I'm just so ecstatic. They're really incredible people and theres no one eles like them and I love them!!!
• well said, Curses! What a wonderful way to describe their music and its effect on you. Its done the same for me in those exact ways. Brings color to my life! back on topic. I just rocked my son to sleep while listening to Fall Be Kind. That was a beautiful moment. And, i've been figuring out how to play Fireworks on the piano. When I play it, and sing along, I feel my heart pouring through someone elses music. I never fully understood the lyrics until that moment.
• Listening to Purple Bottle with my friend on the way to the school hall where we then covered it. First time playing along to Alvin Row the whole way through and just fist pumping in the air after at the achievement. 40 minute walk home from classes listening to MPP thinking about a girl I was crushing on from my tut.
•
First time playing along to Alvin Row the whole way through and just fist pumping in the air after at the achievement.
love this one.
• Scarily fast reply!
• its a coincidence! I just got on after hours of not being here!
• The common theme here is love. <!-- s:heart: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/heart.gif" alt=":heart:" title="heart" /><!-- s:heart: --> <!-- s:heart: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/heart.gif" alt=":heart:" title="heart" /><!-- s:heart: --> <!-- s:heart: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/heart.gif" alt=":heart:" title="heart" /><!-- s:heart: -->
• Animal Collective = Love
• Sitting in a parking lot really early in the morning watching cars go by, to Kids on Holiday. Listening to MPP for the first time. I was in this room of my house that has this ceiling fan with a blue light and it was on the whole time. The first time I heard Bluish I just layed there and it felt like my soul was floating. Then I threw tissues at the fan during guys eyes xD it was awesome! Can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure there's tons.
• ah! That Bluish/MPP experience sounds so peaceful! I love it!
• This music experience is AC related, because it's got Avey in it. I was at the park today with some friends, and I put my headphones on and got on the swing. I put my ipod on shuffle and the first song that comes on is Lay Lay Off, Faselam by Avey and Kria. It was so beautiful, swinging up and down, and going faster as the song got louder and faster. Looking at the sun (it was only 11:00 in the morning at that point) and at my feet going up and down over the sand. Peaceful and awesome.
• Aww that's beautiful! Actually, I was in a park yesterday, I remembered this time I was running the path that goes around the perimeter of the park with by best friend and I was listening to Unsolved Mysteries. That was the first time I realized, hey, this Animal Collective band is preeeeetty good.
• haha, that reminds me of how sometimes when I discover a band or buy clothes or whatever, I like them a bit but it takes a while for me to really love it. I listened to AC once I think and was like, 'meh', but then I came back again and loved it so so much! The other night I was home by myself. I put on MPP and did some art and when Daily Routine came on I put it up really loud and hid myself under my blanket with my fairy lights (just like an enclosed space of few things so I could really focus) and sung along loud and looked at all the different colours of ink stained on my hands. It was fun.
• That's awesome. AC is very inky. I just remembered another one! I woke up in the middle of the night, I think I might have been crying before I fell asleep for some reason. It was like 3 am and I got out my ipod and put Banshee Beat on and did a hand dance in front of my face. It was CRAZY.
• Naww! hahahaha a hand dance! That sounds very cheery, that would have cheered my up to.
• the first time i ever heard animal collective, i was on acid with my firends and we were all sitting on the floor of this basement, actually i think i was lying down, anyway my friend Kevin says, "I got a song, just give it a chance." I just remember listening to Avey really strain his voice on the song, but so perfectly so in place and deliberate, and then right before "I been eating" Panda stops drumming (which is perfect) and all the sounds came washing over me and after it was all over i was so torn up inside and yet so warm and happy I thought to myself WOW THIS BAND IS FUCKING AMAZING
• that's beautiful, DCB! I wish I had such an experience to describe.
•
that's beautiful, DCB! I wish I had such an experience to describe.
I think the small quiet living-your-life-in-AC experiences are just as affirming and special, they just are more personal and hard to put in words.

I hope you all can stay that way forever. I wish you were my kids.
• It was so much fun. I felt like the music was putting me on top of the world.
• Aww thanks Wini. I think I'm gonna try that next week. I love swinging anyway.
• HEY GUYS! this one time, I was at a party in my hometown, and a bunch of us had re-connected for the first time since heading off to university, and I put on brothersport... next thing you knew 8 of us were standing in a circle in the kitchen screaming at the top of our lungs, and pretty much the whole party stopped to watch and listen. That was the best. Very brothersport-y.
• that's amazing. You actually have people you can sing brothersport with??
• Oh man! This reminds me of when I saw AC last February and when they played Brothersport this random guy grabbed my hands and started dancing with me. It was amazing. I wonder who he was.
• I wish there were more AC fans in Australia. It'd be so cool to dance with someone to AC.
• Your task is to create them.
• hahaha yes! But I'm scared about them becoming mainstream. Is that a bad thing to say. So many underground musicians these days become mainstream but AC is to good to be 'old' within a few weeks, you know? I put them on my music list for the ball so if they play that at the ball I will make a memory out of that.
• there's nothing wrong with a band becoming 'mainstream' unless they have to change their sound to do so. Animal Collective isn't a band that would do that, and I wouldn't mind everyone liking them as long as they stayed true to the music (which they would). And then they could be rich and make amazing music! well, that's all my opinions at least.
•
this random guy grabbed my hands and started dancing with me. It was amazing. I wonder who he was.
Rapist. I'm glad you got out ok.

• Shinsy, meet Phantom, also known (to me) as Phanthomy,( just because I find it amusing). He was NOT born in 1985 but he does have siblings. And a sense of humor.
• I wonder if had I seen Jake Jenkins's art, would I think about it everytime I heard Fireworks? And no, I don't know if the sentence above is grammatically correct or not, but I'm betting Jake Jenkins wouldn't either.
• Hello, Phanthomy! I guess we've never actually interacted before. Yeah, Jake Jenkins made some art with blotchy colors and it looked incredibly AC inspired. One of them actually said "Fireworks" in AC font so I didn't have any doubts about it xD
• WILL YOU JUST PLEASE TELL ME WHO THIS GUY IS SO I CAN STOP FREAKING OUT ABOUT HIMMMM
• But the freak outs are so fun!! And if you knew, then the shirts would be...A LIE.
• googled jake jenkins. first result:
• His hair looks similar to that, I guess.
• Who exactly started the whole Jake Jenkins thing? Was it you Shinsy? Does he live where you live? Is he your age or older,.. or younger? Is he a musician or artist or just some random person from school????
•
Who exactly started the whole Jake Jenkins thing? Was it you Shinsy? Does he live where you live? Is he your age or older,.. or younger? Is he a musician or artist or just some random person from school????
Yes, yes, older, i don't know, yes, and yes.
• So JJ lives near you and is older and is an artist and a random person from your school?...okay... My FAVORITE memories of listening to animal collective are: 1)Walking home from school listening to Peacebone and watching crows fly around my neighborhood 2) Building a computer model of a house in drafting class and listening to what would I want sky for the first time (I love the Grateful Dead hook on that song, it's so unique) 3) AND BEST OF ALL, having summertime clothes run through my head as I went on a tour of a UC Berkeley and then deciding that that was the school I wanted to go to. I got in and I'm going next year:D
• Congrats!! That's awesome.
• Many of y'all's wonderful experiences will be embedded in your brains forever and you'll get to re-experience them every time you hear the songs. I love the UC Berk one. And the crows.
• I am very close to having the whole discography on my ipod. Very exciting.
• I love crows!
• Discography of AC, that is.
