Whats your favourite song for its lyrics? I really love Loch Raven. 'Cute red hood come walk with me. Leave your roomate friends. Come up to the apartment with me. Your soft feet will melt' The lyrics is Loch are so visual and really suit the sounds and second vocals and just lets off a really nice vibe. The Purple Bottle too! I love the ideas in that one. I specially like 'Can I tell you that you are the purple in me?' as though his girl loves purple and wears it so much that the purple in his life is her. Right? I might be wrong. 'Think we are the right age to start our own peculiar ways?' Chocolate Girl . The last verse in this especially is really nice. 'Put your lanterns all across the maze, so I won't feast on fallen'. Its a nice, uh, metaphor? mm, yeah so theres just a few of my fave lyrics in songs. And only the other week I figured out really what La Rapet was about. It pretty sad to me now.

• I really love the Purple Bottle too: "Crush high thought I crushed all I could, crushed all I can then I touched your hand" pretty fantastic. I have others but no time right now.

Apparently, we're just one big joke, so I'm taking this off for people that come to laugh at us.
• Grizzly thats a really great story - I'm really glad AC can do that for you! I can relate to that too. Theres this band called Mew and when I was a bit younger I was having trouble with friends, school, not being able to see my dad cause he lives on the other side of Aus, and things like that. I was going to take my life but Mew's music kinda stopped me from doing that. I thought their music was the best thing I'd ever heard and I couldn't possibly leave a world with such incredible things in it. All the things that future had to show.. My mum let us all start anew at a new school and home and things are alot better now. Sometimes it feels like there'll never be enough time to stop how low your feeling, but if you work through the days and if a band really inspires you to hold on that can be the greatest thing I reckon. I hope that makes sense..
•
13 was the worst year of my life by far, and I really needed some encouragement. Brothersport saved my life.
Oh, little pumpkin.
•
I thought their music was the best thing I'd ever heard and I couldn't possibly leave a world with such incredible things in it. All the things that future had to show..
It frightens me to remember feeling this way so seriously, several times in my life. AC is a blessing if they can channel this stuff that reminds us of the good and beautiful in life. I didn't have anything so inspirational, I just slogged through (with one half-hearted attempt). Later it was my dogs that kept me going. But I just love the way you worded that. Thank you for sticking around to love the rest of your story.
• yeah, i'm really blown away to hear such stories from you two. I'm so glad you are both around to enjoy everything with us, and that i've got to (kind of) meet you both. Really. I no longer suffer with that suicidal depression now that I have a kid, but it has been something that i've struggled with before and i'm not quite sure what stopped me. I dunno, if you guys ever need a hug, let me know! I'm full of them! And curses, that is beautiful what wini quoted there. I find they help me remember that things don't have to be dismal and dreary and that there is still such wonder around us, that we all have the potential to do great, Brothersport really motivates me.
• Wow, you guys are absolutely amazing! I'm glad you found hope, you're all very strong. I have a friend who's experienced something similar. He lives a very isolated sort of life and once in a while he still falls into depression, but I think he's been better lately. Music has a tremendous amount of power. Brothersport makes me feel that way, too. On the topic of favorite lyrics: The old lyrics for In the Flowers when it was Dancer. All of it, but especially "Do I write about myself because I won't be this way very long?" So beautiful. Banshee Beat: "But I don't wish that I was dead A very old friend of mine once said that either way you look at it you have your fits I have my fits but feeling is good" The song helped me get through a really hard time, it reminded me that I wasn't alone and wasn't the only person who felt that way. Peacebone: "It's not my words that you should follow it's your insides." I have this tendency to kind of believe everything I read, or take it personally, without processing it or forming an opinion about it myself. This reminds me that yes, I do have a brain and I have the ability to disagree with things.
• I also love the Peacebone lyric "An obsession with the past is like a dead fly." It happens a lot where I will do something embarrassing, and then every embarrassing thing that has happened to me will come to me in flash back form, and I just start to hate myself and my mood gets worse. This lyric is telling me to live in the present because there is no way to change the past.
• wonderfully said, Grizz. That lyric helps me deal with the exact same issue. I love the lyrics from fireworks, "They've got two flashing eyes and they're colored why They make me feel that I'm only all I see sometimes" Because I need to be reminded sometimes of exactly that, for my child's sake. I love all of the words from Fireworks, they mean the world to me. "It's the trees of this day that I do battle with for the light Then I start to feel tragic, people greet me, I'm polite" like i'm just a part of the undergrowth, battling for the light, for the zest of life, and often put on a front to make it through the day. I'm polite.
• I like the way you put it.
•
It happens a lot where I will do something embarrassing, and then every embarrassing thing that has happened to me will come to me in flash back form, and I just start to hate myself and my mood gets worse. Fireworks is great too. xDD my email is surlybloodrivers@hotmail.com. It kinda throws people off when they ask for it... I love "meet me after the world with the shivers", even though I'm not quite sure what it means.
• you guys actually brought tears to my eyes this morning when i read this. just so ya know.
• wow. this is a pretty amazing place, if ppl can open up like this without even knowing them in person. i guess we animals are collective I really love We Tigers; "hey kids, lets pick up sticks, lets make a sound of our own" i'm a musician so to me they're saying, "hey fuck everything else, all those other bands, and lets just do something no one has ever done." Water Curses "hesitate to throw a coin in,a wish could be a bad thing,my mouth is just a mush of drool" I don't really know why, but it is amazing the whole part in Flesh Canoe about making funny faces in the mirror of the bathroom almost makes me cry, my ex and i used to do silly shit like that all the time thats it for now!
•
wow. this is a pretty amazing place, if ppl can open up like this without even knowing them in person. i guess we animals are collective!
If AC= and AC.org=AC then AC.org= s'mathematical! or logical. I got an E in Logic in college.
• we are a lovely collective of animals here. I personally love we tigers too. Like the quote in my signature. I also love the one in Wini's signature. Its pretty straight foward but I find it incredibly powerful.
• if ac.org = and = 3x (64²) ╥r³ then what time will all of us get to sit down and hang out with the AC?
• Hammer Time?
•
Hammer Time?
I am having a hard day and that evoked a smile. Thank you.
• you're very welcome.
• For me it's definitely Cuckoo Cuckoo. I'm in high school and Cuckoo really makes me think about life on my own someday and all the anxieties and fear that come with it.
• interesting insight into it! Welcome to the forums, Tabelz, you should go to the arrivals and introduce yourself!
•
. I felt like AC was the only thing getting me along.

I thought their music was the best thing I'd ever heard and I couldn't possibly leave a world with such incredible things in it. All the things that future had to show
I now how you guys feel. During Christmas time this past year I just got really depressed and alarmed with life. I was just so scared and I felt like nothing made sense and nothing was good anymore. Things just seemed so abominable and pointless. I went in and out of this mood all the time. Sometimes I'd be happy and then all of the sudden I'd get this uneasy nervous feeling about life in general. But then I started listening to animal collective, and I guess what I learned from listening to them is that there is beauty in life. That things will be okay. And I decided that I am no longer going to focus on the things that seem stupid and meaningless, I'm just going to try to be a good person, have some laughs, and do the things that are meaningful to me. My favorite lyrics: "It's not my word that you should follow, it's your inside" from Peacebone. Because I think that goes for a lot of their songs, It's not the lyrics that are important, it's how the music makes you feel. And "Don’t work all night and split your hair and sleep on numbers." and "Just please respect the candles in a line." from #1 It's great advice, don't worry about the things that aren't important and respect the mystery of time.
• I've kind of been feeling like that lately, meander. Maybe my drop in mood can be partially attributed to how much music I've been listening to lately, which is very little. I miss it. I feel so stressed out. I kind of snapped today and I ended up in a fight with my dad and now I feel incredibly guilty on top of everything. I'll be alright soon though. One of the things I love about Animal Collective's lyrics is that people hear them in different ways. I can see that just by reading this thread. Some of the lyrics you quoted sound a lot different to me! But that's great, because we can all pull our own personal meanings out of them.
• Aw hang in there Shinsy. I'm sure Jake Jenkins is about to barge through your door and cheer you up with a funky dance like the ones these people are doinghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsPOiflvHX4&feature=channel I don't know what I just said, but I hope it helps:D Yeah listen to some music, it'll help. And I'm sure your Dad feels as bad as you do about fighting and you guys can make up. Yeah, that's exactly what I mean about the personal meanings! And I like that because it really isn't words that are important, it's what each person takes from them. Which means that there is Soooo much meaning in each song. I think maybe that's why I like them so much. Lots of Mainstream music can only make you feel one way and can only be interpreted one way. But not AC's music, their music is a lot more like life, there's no right answer, there's just what you take from it...
•
Aw hang in there Shinsy. I'm sure Jake Jenkins is about to barge through your door and cheer you up with a funky dance like the ones these people are doing.
This made me so happy. xDD
• YAY!!!! xD
• I wonder if I can get someone to make a gif of JJ's head on one of the dancer's bodies...
• Find someone to do it!!! I want to see what his face looks like, especially when it's atop the body of one of those bad@$$es!!!!
• But showing his face might ruin it all!!
• aw But I want to see JJ. And when I do I want him to be bustin a move
•
For me it's definitely Cuckoo Cuckoo. I'm in high school and Cuckoo really makes me think about life on my own someday and all the anxieties and fear that come with it.
Ah yes, I somehow forgot how amazing Cuckoo Cuckoo is. I associate it with something else, but I still love the lyrics. And you should definitely introduce yourself Tabelz!
• I also like the lyric from Water Curses 'I want to be like water and slip into your throat and make you feel alive and good'. I think of this song when I drink water and I like water more now cause I associate it with such a cool song. 'I want to be like water and never have a doctor..' - also very cool. What an ideal quality to have eh? Pretty much all the lyrics in Taste. 'My friend and me were having laughs in a living room filled with arts and crafts. He said: I like their clothes and their charming plates but what I really want is a simple place, with no fashion clothes cause you can't eat those.' Amusing little visual going on there. 'Am I really all the things that are outside of me?' People judge by what they see on the surface? Even if they don't like who you are don't go changing to fit 'normal' cause you are probably very fine as you are. (I'm not great at interpreting songs - I never have been..)
• I always have taken "Am I really all the things that are outside of me? Would I complete myself without the things I like around?" as questioning the materialism that a lot of us develope in our lives. Do our posessions own us? Are they really what define us or is it the things that are...inside of us? I find that MPP has a massive theme of disregarding material things and appreciating more important things, like our families, our dreams and our actions.
• Agreed, Tigers. Taste was so important to me last summer, and still is, but it really just explained all of my feelings at the moment.
• Taste is a great song lyrically and I love the background lyrics that go with it and accentuate it. My favorite lyric from that song is "and don't go changing clothes when they don't like yours". Basically don't abandon who you really are to conform to what others think is better.
I find that MPP has a massive theme of disregarding material things and appreciating more important things, like our families, our dreams and our actions.
That's what I love about that album. My girls definitely has that same theme. I like: "...I've got to keep up, oh my God, And hope that I will not be wrong and keep my faith inside a song" From Lion in a Coma. I just like how they put it, I've got to keep my faith inside a song, like I've got to keep my spirit alive by believing in this music...
•
"...I've got to keep up, oh my God, And hope that I will not be wrong and keep my faith inside a song" From Lion in a Coma. I just like how they put it, I've got to keep my faith inside a song, like I've got to keep my spirit alive by believing in this music...
I like how you put that. I've always been on the verge of fully understanding Lion in a Coma and I think what you said completes my understanding of it. I know i'm a raging being just kept in a coma by the things of the daily and the downspirals of life. Music definitely helps me become alive at least inside my mind.
• thanks I'm glad you liked it That's definitely part of the reason why I love Animal Collective so much. Listening to them helps me to transcend the pointless everyday routines that lots of people spend their lives drowning in.
• ^^ ah yes! So true Meander! I love it how their music can twist everyday things into something eles you know? I must admit, I don't listen to Lion In A Coma much at all. I skip it almost every time really. The begining of it reminds me of Kangaroos in the desert. The desert is really sunny. I am the biggest wierdo when it comes to the sun. I don't like it much at all. I don't listen to Lion In A Coma. I think if I were to be raised somewhere were its cool or less sunny, like the North Pole? Or, Seattle!? hahahaa - I just might like it. Its likely within the next 24 hours I will try to listen to it now because of this post..
• you should. I enjoy it because Maine isn't always sunny, its pretty much the perfect mix of every kind of weather. So when it is sunny we all have a blast and create some great memories; that's what it reminds me of. I mean, summer is sunny, but the sun isn't as strong here... Is it a different season in Australia right now? I'm not sure how that all works...Its spring here...
• The season is.. uh.. summerrr? It goes: Dec, Jan, Feb - Summer Mar, Apr, May - Autumn Jun, Jul, Aug - Winter Sept, Oct, Nov - Winter Oh, so Autumn then. Still really hot though. The sun is very bright here. But most visitors from over seas looves it. Also, because the sun is all bright and distracting and uncomfortable I don't like listening to music when I'm walking in the sun or sitting on the beach or wherever where the sun is in my face. Specially on my iPod. Eugh. Night is the BEST time to listen to music.
• that's really amazing. Its so hard for me to imagine someone living in a different season right now...Which seems a little silly if I really think about it. Its spring here now. Where does your spring fit in?? Summer doesn't hit us until June, which is your winter. Pretty crazy.
• I know! Thats really crazy. I love winter and when I hear people over seas are dwelling in sub degree winters while I'm melting in close to 40 degree heat it really sucks. hahaha Spring is in Sept Oct and Nov. I alway remember that cause my birthday is in spring. In autumn where you live do the leaves change colour and fall? Its not like that in Aus. Its basically a little less hot version of summer. Edit:: oh right, typo on my post before this. sorry. :S
• my goodness do the leaves change colors! They turn fantastic colors, bright yellows, reds, oranges. Where I live the leaves are particularly beautiful. We get 'leaf peepers' which are what we call the tourists who come up to see our leaves. I'm a big winter person too, and Maine has a very snowy, very cold winter which is awesome. What's even better is being rewarded with beautiful summers. It sounds like you should come live here!
•
I must admit, I don't listen to Lion In A Coma much at all. I skip it almost every time really. The begining of it reminds me of Kangaroos in the desert.
that's funny because it reminds me of people on camels walking in like egypt or something. But Now when I listen to it I can totally imagine the kangaroo thing haha
Dec, Jan, Feb - Summer Mar, Apr, May - Autumn Jun, Jul, Aug - Winter Sept, Oct, Nov - Winter
That's crazy curses! Where i live in california its never to hot or too cold. We don't get snow but we do get rain. It's nice:D
• Okay, I'm going to stay on topic. Some of my favorite lyrics are in Water Curses, and whenever I am having a bad day and I put my iPod on shuffle, Water Curses will come on and lift my spirits. "All the things that I relate to well like authors and painters," and "Two broken strings, attracted. are really meaningful to me. They just seem to make things better.
• Dunno why but I just never got into the Water Curses EP at all.
• man, Phantom, I love it. I can't say its a favorite because I have no idea how to rank their albums but, I think it is pretty fantastic. It transports me whenever I listen to it.
•
I'm a big winter person too, and Maine has a very snowy, very cold winter which is awesome. What's even better is being rewarded with beautiful summers. I only know really basic french. and 'parle le vous francais? Si tu peux le parler allez tombez la chemise' ITS IN A SONG, by this younge aussie band, and that bits funny but the rest of the song is kinda meh. I've have this little dream that one day when I'm old I'll retire and move to France and buy a house in the country with glass walls. I saw this french movie that had Johnny Depp in it for a bit and they had a house in that movie that was so similar to what I had in mind.
•
Dunno why but I just never got into the Water Curses EP at all.
Maybe you'll like it when they release their next album. That happens to me sometimes. Like Mew released No More Stories and I started to really love Frengers.
