• YOU NEED TO GO! The Strokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
• Man or Astroman? I did 'em.
• You did 'em? I'm listening to them now! and liking 'em! I don't listen to rock, but I need to add a rock band to my list of bands I like, so their in. WooOoOOo~ !! XD http://www.myspace.com/manorastroman
• No, I didn't really. They used to live here but I saw them more often when I lived in NY.
• I think you might know every cool band in existance, wini.
•
I think you might know every cool band in existence, wini.
But, sadly, not in the Biblical sense. And Curses, thanks for trying to soften the blow about me being old. I know to all y'all I am.
• Old =/= distinguished.
•
Old =/= distinguished.
ESSPLAIN.
• Just because you have a lot of life experience and memories, doesn't mean your old. Age ain't nuttin but a number. It probably should have been distinguished =/= old. Whoopsies.
• i just ate some mould on bread by accident.
• Maybe you'll either trip or be protected from bacterial diseases. Good deal, either way.
• my environmental science teacher ate moldy bread all the time; he was healthy. thoughts; I wonder if I hate a majority of female singers because I wish my voice sounded like theirs. Or is it because females just tend not to play the kind of music that I like. I mean, proportionally I dislike lots of male singers too...
• I think the whole music industry is really unbalanced. I've always wanted to do something or other in the music industry, most likely as a solo artist, but with women you have to be some kind of gorgeous model type to make it a career. It sucks, and it's unfair, because guys can be average or even ugly, and people don't care because they just love the music. As soon as the word female gets added in most people's minds automatically go towards looks.

Nevermind this post.. its kinda like spam.. .....
• Feminist analysis of the music industry gives me happies, Grizzles. Even though the truth about it is quite sad. I read a pretty cool article on this once, I need to find it....http://tigerbeatdown.com/2010/04/14/lad ... ude-music/ here. Although I haven't read it in a while. And I remember not agreeing with it 100%, because of how she chooses to phrase some things that makes it sound like she hates guy in bands in general. But it's still worth reading. Also, BETH DITTO. Although I definitely don't think she's ugly!!! I don't even really listen to her much, but she's a pretty awesome singer and I find her inspiring. Best advice though, guys, just do what you want to do and see what happens. Tigers, find women singers that you like! I know what you're talking about, and I think it might be just be because there are a lot fewer female musicians. And a lot of them are sort of made to be appealing to men, maybe? Although that's more mainstream stuff. All of you listen to Thao with the Get Down Stay Down because Thao is amazing and I want to be her when I grow up. I recommend Fever Ray too! And Gang Gang Dance!
• i'll check those out when I get the time! there are definitely quite a few female vocalists that I enjoy! I think my problem is is that I like singers that are different, and women often posess the same style of voice that is clear and pretty and they play on the piano and sing and its simple like that, and I can't stand it. Just like I can't stand Coldplay. I love The Kills, The Breeders, Joanna Newsom, when Meg White sings, that chick from The Pixies, Kria. I think it can be done in a cool and exciting way but most women just don't have interest in that, or whatever. I know i'm going to push myself to make cool and exciting music.
•
I think my problem is is that I like singers that are different, and women often posess the same style of voice that is clear and pretty and they play on the piano and sing and its simple like that, and I can't stand it. Just like I can't stand Coldplay.
Yeah exactly. I really don't like the whole "I am a whimsical indie girl with a quirky voice, so cute" thing. I think the only thing I like that's kinda like that is Feist, I don't know if she counts though. I love the Kills. And I'm just listening to the Dead Weather right now, it's quite good.
• There is s definite strain of likeness in womenfolk's music, and I think that's partly why guys don't like it. If you take it in a new direction, it may be something worth listening to. Other than that, people just expected to be the same old cutesy crap.
• lolololololololololololololololololololololoolololololololololololol APPARATJIK RepLIED TO ME ON FB! JAJAJAJAJA http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/app ... 8897288687 Hells yeah people. But who knows who said it!? It could have been any of the other members (besides Jonas).. but possibly Jonas (of Mew!) cause he use to personally blog on the Mew page with Bo. I'll get over this but that was kinda funny/strange/exciting for that little moment there. yay. Apparatjik - they're a cool band!
• i love random facebook replies! I'll have to check those guys out at some point but, I came here to post this thought which will explain why I might not right off... I have decided to try and curb my love of finding new bands. I need to devour, process, and fall deeply in love with the CDs I hvae now instead of just gaining more and more and only becoming slightly familiar with them. I want to know favorite tracks off of each and have well thought out opinions. So that's what i'm doing. I have so much music to process through my brain its insane. I am also going to try and stop illegally downloading now that i have a job and buy CDs legally. I would like to support these bands. And that way, as my cousin said, I will appreciate each CD even more. And I will also get them in the highest quality which will be great. I got a Water Curses mp3 download with the vinyl I bought and it was like listening to the CD for the first time. So clear and amazing.
• Thats a great idea Tigers! I've always loved buying CDs and it definitely does make you appreciate and get more excited about the music your listening to. With downloading these days, you can just download in bulk, throw it on your iPod and not even listen to all of it - and its an increasing trend, as you can tell. Kids download singles and forget the album - the artist who have enough money and are getting attention from that audience release almost all the singles from their albums (like Lady Gaga).. And even MGMT is not releasing any singles right? Because they're sick of that sort of attitude from kids - I could be wrong, but I think thats what they're doing. Anyway, CDs are great to own. And listening to new bands is always great too. Especially when you discover bands with albums as golden as AnCo sort talent you know. (off topic) http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pag ... 5843329459 Whats with this? I should go comment on Mews fb or something and see if they reply now.
• Man, I love being happy. I haven't been truly 100% happy in a really long time, but today I'm in the clouds. Everything is in it's right place, and it feels really good.
• MGMT is releasing singles but their whole theory behind the CD was that they weren't going to make any songs that sounded like singles. Like no more Kids or Time to Pretend. Really, if you just listened through Congratulations trying to pinpoint what songs would be singles, it would be very hard. Did you remember my possum mini convo I had with Deakin, curses? When I asked him what his favorite animal was on his fb page and he said in his next wall post that he didn't really have a favorite but there was a possum that lived under his porch that he liked very much? I came here to post this. Last night I was listening to one of those Tame Impala mixtapes and one of them has rap on it. I was listening to the lyrics, the rawness in his voice and the beats and had an epiphany when it comes to song writing. I try and write things that sound poetic and it all comes off as too forced. But when I write normally I find my style to be straightforward and brutal at times. That's my favorite thing about Charles Bukowski; his shamelessness in talking about his life and himself without censor. That's what got me writing in the first place. I'm just going to write lyrics with brutal honesty, or something like that.
• I love trying to create lyrics too - but they're often qutie playful and strange with no obvious meaningfulness behind it, a bit like ACs stuff - which I am inspired by in a way. Do you write lyrics to song on the piano and things like this Tigers? and yes I do remember you mentioning that story about Deakin and the possum before. Its very cool when they acknowledge your comment and reply back. Mew have actually replied to me asking them about coming to Australia once. They said they were interested but never really ended up coming.. I don't know where abouts in the world they are playing now.
• no obvious meaningfulness but if it is like the ACs there surely is some to be found! I mean, i'm sure some of the ACs songs don't have deep meanings, but some are just brimming! I'm sorry to mention the Deakin thing again, I just thrills me to think of it! Its satisfying! Too bad Mew never went your way! THey should, your country is cool. I've been trying to learn the piano the past few months, I teach myself but took lessons a long time ago. It all started trying to do covers of songs and that works alright. I learn a lot that way, and I have two partial songs written without any lyrics. The lyrics I can never get to come out right and hopefully that epiphany will fix that. I'm very satisfied with the melodies I have though there are no real chord progressions so to speak; I think it all needs some lyrical structure so it will come together.
• I am realising that peeps aren't generally around on here when I am! I kinda forgot about stupid time zones... damn.
• It works that way for me too, Ranger! Its alright though! that's the great thing about forums!!!
• Listening to Memory Tapes. Man this stuff is amazing. I'm in such a trance right now.. Bliss..
• DAMN BACKSPACE BUTTONS TO HELL! OMFG! I was writing the most in depth analysis of the Postal Service and *backspace* - THE WHOLE PAGE CHANGES AND ALL MY WORK IS GONE! Mental note - Do not trust trust the internet. First write all texts that will possibly be quite long in word or notepad, then, copy + paste. !!!!!!!!!!
• I'm buying Give Up on vinyl the next chance I get. Also, that sucks lol
• It really does Grizz. I don't know when I'll be in the zone again to pour out the contents of my brain and heart towards Give Up like that again. I just wanted you guys to know how briliant it is and how much their music means to me but noo! The internet had different plans! rrr I should get a vinyl player. How loud do they play. I'm gonna buy a subwoofa sort speaker thing soon to play music from my iPod that I don't have cds of.. Are vinyl players quite loud?
• record players are like boomboxes that play records. Mine gets very loud.
• I play mine through my TV soo.... it doesn't get too too loud. Turntables are only good if you intend on using them, though, so don't spend a bunch of money on something you're not really going to use, if you're not going to use it that often.
• you can also get them cheap at thrift or second hand stores. I mean, I don't use mine a bunch but I love it so much when I do. It was certainly worth 15 dollars.
• Getting rejected really sucks. A lot.
• Noooooooooooooo Grizzles what happened??
