The Movie Thread

edited November 2011 in Visual
Whats the last film you watched? (At the cinema, or just at home, a random rental from the dvd store, at a mates place..) The last film I watched was Hallam Foe. I watched it on the SBS chanel (bahaha - a chanel great for foreign films!) and its a scottish movie. I quite enjoyed it though it a bit too much adult content for my liking. A bit of a creepy movie but it made me laugh ANND its got some amaaazzing scenery!! it also had a sweet soundtrack including Franz Ferdinand. Uhh, and thats my scrappy little review for that movie. Oh goodness - I know what Wini's gonna reply to this!

• LOSERS. OH MY LANTA it was amazing. Go see it if you've got the time and $$. If not theres nothing like good ol' VHS screening of Jumanji.
• Sorry, see what? Losers? Is that a movie? hahahaha (me being slow again)
• So fucking good. I went to the midnight showing of Ironman 2 last night. FUCKING FANTASTIC. STAY TILL AFTER THE CREDITS. a'lskfdjasdf
• I watched Eraserhead in my film class yesterday and In Heaven keeps popping into my head whenever I'm in the dark and it's creepy. Oh my god. I wasn't actually too scared or disturbed while watching it though. Except at the very end with the...you know. ughhh
• Sweet Sue canned whole chicken reminds me of the baby in Eraserhead. Ewwww.
• I watched Kick Ass last night. Absolutely FUCKING awesome. I also got a chance to take my mom to Avatar in 3D! (yes it's still in one of our theaters) Which puts my avatar-theater count up to 4, and my total avatar count up to 10. BRILLIANT!
• I saw Nightmare on Elm Street last night with a friend (I snuck in cause I'm such a badass). It was probably the funniest movie I've seen all year, no kidding. It was only me, her and like 10 other people in the gigantic theater so we were laughing pretty loud.
• ive been into 80's post apocolytic films lately the last one i watched was neon city i think those movies have cool vibes
• Very last movie I saw completely was Gran Torino in English Language. Everyone came out of that class with tears streaming down their cheeks. Kinda strange how at some serious bits in the film you can't help but laugh a bit.
• I want to see this one but I don't think my local dvd store has it. Michael Gondry is my favourite director.
• The last one I saw was "The Mummy 3". My room mate and I watch DVDs nearly every evening. I'm from US, and she's from Japan, so we have an interesting collection.
•
I want to see this one but I don't think my local dvd store has it. Michael Gondry is my favourite director.
Gondry is awesome! never heard of this movie. (that's one of the reasons why i love this forum, recommending new stuff to other people and in return learning about the stuff, too).
• Have you seen the Science of Sleep. I'd say that could be my favourite film. I love the soundtrack and imagination in the film. And the paintings in the credits! So pretty. My art teacher said they do that in a washing machine......... ?
• Washing machine?! Cool...I dunno though, the Science of Sleep was really pretty to look at, and I liked some of the ideas but that was it for me. Mainly a lot of awesome visuals but the story was a bit "meh" for me. Never heard of Tokyo as well...Nearly crapped myself when I saw it was a Gondry. I THOUGHT I KNEW ALL HIS STUFF!!! ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!! *searches*

ARRGGGHHHHH!!!!! *searches*
exactly, never heard of this movie either, lol.
• A friend of mine did a Gondry inspired music video for Music Video class last year, it was soo awesome. they built a giant mouth out of cardboard and a girl got sucked into it while she was at the dentist... fuck I will find a link and post. Soo cool. Tokyo looks awesome, going to watch it tonight!
• ALSO science of sleep looks beautiful. Stop Motion is my favourite genre of filmmaking. I did a music video with stop motion, lights, and long exposure photography. Going to be working on another of my own soon!
• lolforeign
• science of sleep is beautiful!!!
• I need to see this movie. First off, Jimmy Page is the man. Second, I fucking love Jack White, and third, I know very little about The Edge and hate U2, but he seems pretty cool and interesting.
• An acquaintance of mine did Jimmy back in the day. He just lay there.
• Yes you do need to watch that film!!!
• I watched until 1:13 (only ten minutes left) until Megavideo crapped out on me. You know what. I loved everything Jack White said and it all relates to things that I take with me while I try and create music myself. I've realized for a long time now that it doesn't matter what I do with instruments, all that matters is that i'm sincere. I've got the sincerity in the instruments, I just have a hard time finding in lyrics. And once that cliques, i'll be golden. I will at least be able to make one album and decide from there whether it is actually good or not, and that is good enough for me. Everytime The Edge came on I was bored. Jimmy Page, even if he doesn't do anything in bed, is always wonderful to watch because he is such a historical figure for me. But Jack White, is an inspiration. Someone i've always heavily respected. I love Jack's favorite song. And that sadness that seemed to come over him when he admitted that was what they were trying to achieve with the White Stripes, and what they were still trying to achieve. Very interesting stuff.
• Cold Souls and Lovely Bones. I liked Cold Souls. That actor is really good and its got some really funny moments.
• Who here has seen Toy Story 3? It's such a great film! The thing that surprises me the most is how they've still kept it interesting unlike other sequels *cough-SHREK-cough*. Didn't think it'd get that serious near the end though...damn me crying. haha, the only thing I like about The Lovely Bones was the paedo guy. He scared me so much I felt disgusting just watching him, especially when he did that weird laughing thing. Ugh.
• I think the narration in the Lovely Bones was a bit corny. It was almost like it was aimed at the age of the main character 14 years olds and older, but the bit where shes first in limbo and sees him in the bath is really confronting. I really don't know what audience (age) could watch this film. And no, I haven't seen Toy Story 3. Not too fond on watching that one. I still wanna watch Tokyo though! I think my last resort is to d/l it. : (
• The last movie I watched was Lost In Translation. I hadn't seen it since it came out on DVD. I still really enjoyed it no matter how overrated people say it is.
• I like Toy Story 3 a lot! Even my Dad was crying. and I was gonna watch Lost in Translation last night. I think I will tonight, I'm excited.
• TOY STORY 3. This was the movie my generation grew up with. (Some of you can agree) Seeing this come to an end was so wonderfully heartbreaking, I cried so hard. By far the best Toy Story yet. Has anyone gone to see Inception!? If it doesn't win best picture I will be surprised. It truly is all in all, a perfect film. Shinsy! You especially need to see this.
• Inception was amazing! Definitely the best movie I've seen this year. It will definitely be nominated for best picture.
•
Has anyone gone to see Inception!? If it doesn't win best picture I will be surprised. It truly is all in all, a perfect film.
OMG Yes! I loved it! Just came home from seeing it. I don't watch movies very often, and its rare that I watch a film that I can say I like or call a favourite but Inception was amazing. Being into lucid dreaming too helped me enjoy it more than I often would.. anyway, the cinematography and plots and ideas were all very cool. Incase anyone eles here wants to see it but hasn't yet I'll put this next bit in spoiler things..
An aspect of the film I ecspecially liked was how with the kicks, and a kick in the third level woke them up into the second. Thats a cool concept. Also, do you reckon that Cobb was still dreaming in the end? Yeah, he woke up on the plane and saw the others and such, but his kids were wearing the same clothes and crouching the same way and such. It seems a bit too much like the memory don't you reckon? His totem looked like it was gonna fall but it could have just been wobbling a bit..
• I did see Inception, Toast! I loved it! The night before last night my dreams totally got inception'd xD it had levels and everything. Really weird.
At the end I was like OHHHHH SHIT.
• SWEET FANCY MOSES! I Just saw Inception a couple days ago and my mind has been blown! Its definitely is one of my FAVORITES. I still havent stopped thinking about the ending.
• Anyone here see or is interested in seeing Scott Pilgrim vs The World? I didn't know how to feel about it based on the trailer, but I saw it and loved it! It was pretty ridiculous, but pretty awesome as well.
• Curses:
Someone told me that in the extended version the top falls over.
• I really liked Scott Pilgrim, even though I don't usually like Michael Cera movies. I will definitely be reading the comics now.
• Yeah, well, Avatar made me cry.
• Everything makes me cry.
•
Anyone here see or is interested in seeing Scott Pilgrim vs The World?
Yess.
even though I don't usually like Michael Cera movies
I know he can't act so well but hes freaken adorable!
Curses:
Someone told me that in the extended version the top falls over.

Really?? Like on a dvd version or something? So it really does conclude. ( I think everyone here has seen Inception, right? ) Pfft,
happy ending then. Like so many other movies.
Last night I watched Moon. I liked it! Its interesting, and GERTY cracks me up - hes not meant to, but really, watch it and its hilarious. Or maybe thats just my adoscelent brain. I don't know. Its a neat movie xD
• I appreciate the spoiler bar just so you know! I haven't seen inception because I can't really bail at movie time hours cause of my kiddo. I'm going to have to wait and rent it or something.
• I want to see scott pilgrim soooo bad. I lovee michael cera.
• Watched Fight Club for the first time last friday. So awesome!
• oh man! Congrats Curses! That movie'll always be a favorite of mine!
• I'm watching Heartless with Jim Sturgess and finding it incredibly interesting and dark. He's an awesome actor. I also watched Alice in Wonderland last night and was completely charmed by Johnny Depp's take on the Mad Hatter. A fun movie for sure.

• Oh wow, you've had amanita? That's kind of dangerous, I thought. Kind of along the lines of datura. Takes you to places we rarely even consider.

• I did not know that, mister wolfy. I am always surprised to find anyone who has done datura. It's pretty dark. I'm just waiting for a guide before I try it!
