I need to discuss ODDSAC ITS ALL SPOILERS

edited September 2010 in Animal Tracks
that's right. I'm sorry but this sound track is too incredible not to just talk about it openly so if you haven't seen it and don't want anything revealed turn around right now. now, i've been listening to just the sound track a lot right now and the first song, Mr. Fingers, just blows my mind. I mean, it is so good. I almost cried at the end of this whole sequence because I felt so happy to be hearing something so beautiful, and I feel that way about Working/Tantrum Barb as well. My only wish is that they were both longer. I mean, I think they are probably the perfect length but i'm still not satisfied. I listen to Mr. Fingers every morning when I first wake up and I get filled with this feeling that reminds me of watching a horror movie and seeing things you aren't sure you want to see. This nerving uncomfortable knot in my gut and I love it.

• I'm waiting until later in the week to listen/watch but I promise I will discuss this all with you!
• "Mr. Fingers" is absolutely amazing. I still don't have the audio from ODDSAC (although I am in the process of getting it as I type this) so I haven't heard most of the songs more than two times. Still though I know I love the songs already. "Mr. Fingers" is probably my favorite, but I also really love the last song in the film, "What Happened?"
• yes! I loved What Happened! It was a perfect end to the movie because I found myself wondering the exact same thing after watching it. "What just happened??" especially because the ending was so bizarre.
• I know! The ending was so strange. I was a little freaked out at first, but once the song hit I got really happy.
• yeah, its like the whole thing was really unsettling but the ending came and left me feeling happy and at peace. pretty sweet.
• i don't know any of the names to the songs becuase i don't have a dvd remote, but the kaleidoscope scene was pretty amazing, in fact i think the whole movie is amazing, i was a little freaked out during the marshmallow part. I liked all of Panda's songs a lot especially the drumming! so good to have him playing the drums again. The first sequence was probably the best tho.
•
I liked all of Panda's songs a lot especially the drumming! so good to have him playing the drums again. I know you and me (and that we're not the only ones) are rooting for Panda to get back behind his set.
• i love the part where the little girl/boy is like "He doesn't even like chocolate! He doesn't eat anything but green beans."
• i watched the movie with a friend who is not that familiar with AC and right after that part her turned to me and said: "That is the first thing i have clearly understood in this movie." I lol'd
• Alright, finished watching it, and to say the least, I think its one of those things that will settle in and I will enjoy more after I get more familiar. ((Warning: possible party-pooper remarks)) Well, one things for sure, GEO IS GOING TO GIVE ME FREAKEN NIGHTMARES. My god, what the hell! hahahaha I think Danny Perez could have done a better job, or is that just his style? (I haven't seen much of his works at all) It appeared pretty amateur looking in some of the filmed parts, like they had a low budget or shitty cameras (maybe that was the quality of my laptop screen?). I was a bit unimpressed by the quality of some of the scenes. I could be totally wrong here - I might need a better screen to view it.. The melodic songs were really quite beautiful though! Panda singing in Deakins boat scene and the song for Panda and the rocks. It was pretty sweet. I could surely give those songs another listen very soon. I was thinking, the fans of the earlier AnCo stuff like Danse would probably be glad to hear this sort of style again! (The bits in between the melodic songs) I need to give the sound track another listen. Overall I spose I was kind of dissapointed. BUT it has only been my first watch - and I bet it would be twice as amazing on a decent screen with the speakers up even more. I think I will get over this opinion sometime I hope. Sorrrryyy! I'll shut up with my critism now!
• I'm really sorry to hear that you were disappointed, Curses! I certainly didn't find the quality low at all...hmm...
• well i think partly it was obviously yes low budgie! but i think it was also a choice... AC are damn fans of weirdo avant low budget weirdness horror and shit and i think it went with that feeling quite well! that vid they posted of some weird surreal japanese battle [can't remember what it was called]...
• I am partly listening/watching it again now. I'm not much of a big movie person so I've never seen anything quite like it. Maybe you guys could reccomend some movies to me like this? Or I could stalk about CA for a while.
• I'm not sure if there is anything quite like it. One of my favorite 'horror movies' that has that strange essence of being rather low quality is the Evil Dead series. Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and then Army of Darkness which wanders far into comedy. I'd say watch the first one. I don't know why ODDSAC makes me think of it...
• They said at the Q and A that low budget horror heavily influenced the movie and I once heard it compared to the video in the Ring. I thik the low budget is a cool contrast the the ridiculous psychedelic colors and visuals and stuff. I'm half watching/listen right now with a couple of my friends. By the way, does anybody else love the visual/audio distortion during the scene with the rocks. Everything was so calm and serene until that came in. Danny talked about the fact that the movie was like the awkward in-between to being excited and mellow, like the feeling of calming yourself down. Anyone else agree?
• nothing calm about that marshmallow sequence, i was not ready for it, but then again i think the movie was all about exploring the correlation between music and visuals and how they correlate, every scene brought extreme emotions to mind, it'd take too long for me to list everything but i found the movie stirred up a lot of strange emotions not just happy or sad or scary or beautiful
•
By the way, does anybody else love the visual/audio distortion during the scene with the rocks. Everything was so calm and serene until that came in. Anyone else agree?
I aboslutely love the visuals and the sounds of wild drums breaking up through Working. I think it does give the same general feeling as what Danny described there. What a wonderful way to put it. Though there certainly was nothing mellow about the vampire/marshmellow devouring a family scene.
• I wanted to be dragged off by Deakin and have him drain me of my blood via a big long neck suck.
• too bad it wasn't that sensual and instead it was him tearing out flesh violently.
• IT FINALLY CAME IN THE MAIL AND I WATCHED IT! My only criticism is that it's too short I was sad when the credits came up I think the marshmallow scene's my fav. ..or Geo riding into battle. That cracked me up
•
too bad it wasn't that sensual and instead it was him tearing out flesh violently.
Giggity I'm terrible. Watching gets better and better every time! I think my favorite song is the one where pandas setting up the drums. Very heartfelt,I would love to see future records go in the that direction. Also the kind of electro-ambient pieces in the visual scenes. Reminds me of danse, I would love to see them go that way again.
• I agree, I would love to see them go that way as well. I got to watch ODDSAC today with a dear friend/old friend/old love/new love and see his face as it all played out and see the horror, appreciation, and excitement. We got stoned and drank beer and watched and it was beautiful. I appreciated some parts that I hadn't before. Like the craziness that is Urban Creme turning into the solidity of rocks right before Working.
• The opening song is also quite great. Sounds like a really great time! It's a great thing to watch oddsac with cool people who will enjoy it. It's so open ended that invokes great discussion.
• Can someone please send me an audio link? I'd love to put it on my ipod.
• That would be stealing!
• Not suggesting anything but it's pretty easy to find...
• very easy just search in google. I would strongly recommend buying it tho, all of the songs go with the visuals some better than others, but they should really be watched together. any zip files you find out there will be reduced in quality so it just makes sense to pay for it.
• I've seen the movie 20 times I just wanna listen to it without having to use the tv every time
• Aww, Mcwallace, you should've responded with "But, I'm blind..." I'm definitely going to look for an MP3 version though. It's a great album even without the visuals. Last time I watched it I just turned off the lights and closed my eyes. The flashing of the TV through my eyelids was like a brain massage.
• you should be able to find it in mp3 format if you search a bit best scenes: the first one, the spinning fire poi were intense. i liked how they segued into the first visual sequence... the canoe scene was beautiful, as was the rocks one. 'working' going into 'tantrum barb' was an amazing moment. overall, way too strobey for me. one particular visual sequence went on for like 5 minutes (the one that looked like a bat tornado) and gave me a massive headache.
• "Bat Tornado"...I like that. I wonder if we're supposed to see things in the images or if it's our imagination. That would be Urban Creme, and that's one of the questions I'm going to ask Danny, when I see him in two weeks! I love the title 'Satin Orb Wash'. Isn't one of the samples in Green Beans one that showed up prominently in WWIWS? During Working, do you see the faces of what look like African children? I wonder who they are. Lady in the Lake should be called Frustrating Laundry and the Sad Vampire. Mister Fingers is the best song on there, I think, but it's also more of a listenable song than the rest. A lot of it is 'soundtrack' as opposed to album cuts, don't you think? I've only seen it 2 times, now on my 3rd watching/listening. I had to wait for the right time. Did somebody say something about the background voices near the beginning?
• Yeah, I accidently posted it in the other ODDSAC thread though. I just really like the bit in Mr. Fingers, everyones in the field with the fire before Avey begins to sing and you can hear people talking to eachother. I like it how thats still there and not editted out or something. Its a cool visual to imagine them all in the field just talking and swinging the fire, filming ODDSAC. They must have just been so excited you know. I think that aspect has always stood out to me.
• you propose a lot of interesting thoughts wini. I totally see the faces in the middle of Working/Tantrum barbs. I wonder the same thing about the bats. washing orbs thing is a weird scene, I don't know abiout it. Mr. Fingers is greatb ut I think Working/Tantrum(?) Barbs are my favorite songs out of the entire thing. Incredible.
• In your face Twilight, Team Deakin! FTW!!!
•
In your face Twilight, Team Deakin! FTW!!!
YES!
• I think ODDSAC needed more of this!
