• actually moondoggy, in interviews i think it's a pretty plain refrence to panda telling his mom that he doesn't want to use anti-depressents cuz it's been a problem in his family, but he still appreciated what they did for his family. i haven't really listened for lyrics yet
• I feel we've talked a lot about other things? but what do we think is different? I like Avey behind the keys a lot I like the heavily affected vocals it kind of reminds me of a darker MPP but with more driving rhythms and weirder samples
•
In Chores they explicitly say "I want to get so stoned". That's the only reference I know of.
Oh yeah, totally forgot about that one. I assumed Take Pills is about abusing pills of some kind, not necessarily condoning it, just commenting on it I guess. But maybe I'm wrong, in fact I probably am if what's tabes says is true.
• it all reminds me so much of Down There but I think its due to similar vocal distortions.
• ahhhh i have to go listen to the show just downloaded the whole thing and im very excited
•
ahhhh i have to go listen to the show just downloaded the whole thing and im very excited
I'm about half way through and it's so cool! So diverse! So new!

• I've been listening to Spirit on repeat lately and the new stuff seems to harken back to that: but that may be Deeks influence(thank you lord). I like watching the videos because they look so happy and well rested and back in their element.
• Yeah they seem extremely comfortable in a good way. We Tiggles was weird but I liked it. But I also love the last avey Jam, called little kid on CA
• the song where Deakin sang, (someone said it was called Change) blew me away, can't stop listening to it. and in the last Panda song (I'd Rather i think) Deakin's guitar sounds reminds me of The Grateful Dead. i love the direction the band has gone, it all sounds so fresh.
• have we got a boot from last night's show? kinda growing impatient. heard it was the same set but i'm kind of hungry for a bunch of different recordings
• Have you checked CA? I think there's a guy following them up the coast, same guy who taped the first show.
• yeah yeah. I want last night's show too! You're not the only impatient one boy Table. I really do like Avey behind keys. And going back to a couple of posts ago... Avey says, "let some hash relax me" in I Think I Can on FBK. But, you're right. There aren't too many drug references that they use. I love this new era they're in!
• I'm ok with them not adding many drug references. That'd get tiresome really quickly. The new stuff reminds me of Feels with sounds from MPP, with something different. I think the next step is orchestral arrangements, then maybe jazz vocals. Voo voo voo bah! Bee doo, bap bo ze voo ze boo! Edit: Greetings from Arcata! Channel may have more vids, I haven't checked. 2nd Edit: Lots of youtube videos, no one on CA has posted any recordings as of 4pm EST.
•
Here is a boot with the songs in order... http://www.mediafire.com/?oneng3kdovaqsdu Here is the tracklisting, remember to put in the track numbers when you edit the names (if you're using iTunes). 1) Change (Deakin) 2) Stop Thinking 3) Did You See The Words 4) A Long Time Ago 5) Take This Weight (Panda Bear) 6) Knock You Down 7) Brother Sport Mercury 9) Your Choice 10) Frights 11) We Tigers 12) Summertime Clothes 13) I'd Rather 14) Little Kid Videos can be found on pitchfork.com
And i thought this day couldn't get anybetter. I love you all.
• Thanks a lot Moondog, that track listing was really bothering me. I appreciate it.
• Yes! Track list! You rock Dawg!
• Death Row's in the mothafuckin'... hou-ouse! Does that look menacing, or what?
• what is Death's Row?
• an old record label snoop dogge recorded on.
• take this weight is really really good but seriously little kid might be the best live jam I've heard in a long time. avey's just killing it Wondering how much these songs will change when they get into the studio? Anybody who listened to a lot of the Merriweather boots know how much they changed?
• Yea i'm wondering which titles will actually stay the same too. Over all it's a great set with very few previous works which is awesome!!
• the titles you see here are from Collected Animals, nobody's been able to snag a setlist at the Cali shows to figure out what the AC calls them. But I'm sure Panda calls "Take This Weight" by that name because he mentioned it in an interview somewhere.
• This Picture is AWESOME!!! Can we make it the new header for the site?? lol Here's the article via prettymuchamazing: http://prettymuchamazing.com/mp3/10-new ... songs-live
• elbo.ws has a hand full of videos from the petaluma show too. http://elbo.ws/track/animal-collective- ... a-4-10-11/
• I think that Panda song from the encore is my favorite. Really nice melodies and I like all those goofy sounds going on in the background. It could just be me, but a lot of this stuff sounds like AC's take on carnival music, haha. Big fan of "Knock You Down" as well. It sounds like Avey expanding on the Down There sound a bit more, with those kinda soulful r&b vocals. It gets really intense. Speaking of that, I'm glad he's letting loose with his voice and not holding back as much as he did for Merriweather.
• Agreed! Knock You Down may be my favorite one out of the setlist. It does sound like he is expanding on the Down There sound a lot. I like it all. I can see where you hear the take on carnival music. I hear a lot of sounds that could have been at their Guggenheim show.
•
I hear a lot of sounds that could have been at their Guggenheim show.
That's interesting! I considered the Guggenheim thing to be a lot less song-y. Do you mean the textures and stuff? there's definitely a ton of color here, just as feels. But there's something dark and sinister in many of the songs. Kind of like Spirit I guess (good Lord, I love Spirit)
• Oh yeah. I guess more of Geologist's sounds reminded me of the Guggenheim session. Textures and whatnot.
• yeah there definitely is a Spirit vibe. the sound is so full, everyone kinda seems to be where they belong, i don't know it just all fits, i'm really excited to hear the album that will come out of this, and i'm more determined than ever to see them live.
• SHOULD I LISTEN TO THE BOOTS BEFORE SEEING THEM SATURDAY? DO I EVEN HAVE TIME?? PANIC!!!!! AHHHHHH
• no WAY! let the live new music engulf you. It will be so much more MAGICAL.
• yes HEY! let the recorded new music in golf you! it shall be ever the more MAGIK DOLL!
• I didn't know you were going to see them Shinsy!!! That's so awesome!!! I always like being somewhat familiar with an artists songs when I go and see them but I guess if you listen or don't listen is up to your preferences!
• That's awesome Shins. You've gotta let us know how it was after you go. Far out! Have an awesome time. Also, I'm kind of in line with Tigers on this one, although I have been introduced to songs before in a live setting and it is indeed awesome, depending on the person and what kind of music it is. I found that with this new stuff, at least on the aud that everyone's been listening to, I needed to listen to it once all the way through before I really got into it. It's up to you, though, and I'm sure you'll have a great time regardless of what you listen to or don't listen to beforehand.
• I've never been that much of a fan for live music unless i knew the songs already. Like i love ACs live videos because i've heard the studio versions of the songs they were playing. crappy quality and screaming audience just isnt my thing. If and when these new songs hit the CD, im gonna go crazy. What an omen. haha

• If I was going to see them, I wouldn't listen to the boot simply because I'd want the new sound to just wash over me......
• i agree completely with Tabelz
•
If I was going to see them, I wouldn't listen to the boot simply because I'd want the new sound to just wash over me......

i agree completely with Tabelz
I second this. Or third this. Or whatever. That being said, I find it hard to get into songs that I haven't heard before when an artists plays them live. However, I don't much care for bootlegs. I'd rather here the songs as studio versions for the first time, then go back and see some of the earlier live performances and how the songs have evolved since. But if I was seeing AC live then I wouldn't care what they played. It would be amazing whether a song was brand new or ten years old.
• Normally I like to listen to a band´s music before I go and see them. But I feel differently about AC, the inventiveness, their ability to surprice with every new record and their presence on stage... I guess not knowing the songs would be more interesting, at least to me, at this point. I´m so excited to see where they are going next, so I guess I want to be surprised if I get the chance to see them soon. Anyway, since nobody seems to post their thoughts of the new material on Reverb, I can post some of my thoughts here: My favourite of the videos were the one called "Panda Electronic" or someting. I really liked the groove and the drums, and the way the melody floated over it. Nice melody and good atmosphere to it. Some people are asking themselves how long they can keep growing as musicians, and put out good stuff. After hearing and seeing these videos I think it´s safe to say they still have the spark. And the good songwriting seems to be there. But in my opinion there are really good songwriting on both Avey and Panda´s latest solorecords, so there are no reasons to worry about that. And now Panda has moved back (if only for a while), and Deacon is back... That has to be good for the creativity. One of the things I am most excited about, is what their new record (lets say it will happen) will sound like, productionwise. Will they continue to wrap their songs in weird noises and effects, or will they focus more on the songs? (Arrg, english is not my first language, so it´s a bit tricky sometimes to write down what I mean, hope you get the point...)

After hearing and seeing these videos I think it´s safe to say they still have the spark.
As one of those who was wondering how long the creativity would last, I think it's safe to say they've still got it. Also, I'm really surprised English isn't your first language. Your words are clear and direct, and that's far more than I can say for many native English speakers I know. No worries, because I get what you mean when you write as a rule.

• Another boot. Same setlist but this sounds REALLY good! From the Great American Music Hall Via the Collected Animals, where I found the link http://www.archive.org/details/acollect ... -13.flac16
• Thanks Tabelz! Been waiting for this next tape.
• Tabelz, Thank you sir!
• JUST started listening! Time for some chess! Amazing so far. I'm only on track 1.
• Sorry about the three posts in a row. But does anyone know Panda's drum set up? Do you know what all's on his kit?
• Drums, cymbals, hardware, sticks. Is there a big difference between sets? Anyway, judging from sound and videos I'd say he uses floor toms, and aside from that I'm not really sure.
• Yeah. The metal thing on top of his bass drum. What is that? Is he using any samplers? The shaker on top of his hi-hat? Is that a gord? The high pitched drums. Are those bongos? He has a unique set up this go 'round. I love everything about their new stuff.
