Young Prayer

edited July 2011 in Side Projects
I just bought Young Prayer. What do you guys think of it? I've only listened to it twice so far and it's still sinking in for me. But I'm really interested in what you all have to say about it.

• I think of Young Prayer and Down There as sort of the same idea. Its not really easy listen music that you just put on shuffle, its something you sit down to and listen all the way through. You have to be in the right mood. I can't really listen to Young Prayer anymore because it reminds me of some horrible things that happened recently, but if I'm in the right mood its just perfect.
• too slight for me... just a run of breezy half-formed untitled songs that collectively form a hushed whole that is nice enough but doesn't stick out much for me... just mellow and well... when you know why he made the album it makes sense ... but musically and melody-wise i kinda want a bit more! still worth hearing though! i imagine some would defend it but in general you hear so very little talk about it [and the s/t] that person pitch might as well be his true blue Debut
• Yeah I don't really consider Young Prayer to be Panda's first album thing (besides his self titled release). It's not so much of a collection of listenable songs as a reflection of what he was feeling at the time and I guess a form of therapy. Person Pitch actually moved on and had a listenable aspect. But I love them both in their own ways.
• Yes yes. These were perfect replies. I feel the same way exactly. It's definitely not something to put on shuffle. I'm really glad I bought it, there surely are some beautiful parts to it and if you keep in mind why he wrote this album, I think it makes it all the more beautiful. I can really feel him mourning his father's death in this. Which is why I would put it in the same category as Down There.. Very personal, not easy listening, but I feel a bit emotionally attached to it. And I would agree with you, I'd consider Person Pitch to be his "true blue debut" album. I love Person Pitch, it's great.
• Young Prayer is my favourite Panda Bear album. The melodies and the way he sings is so unique. The Gregorian-kinda feel to it, mixed with the way he plays guitar, just so beautiful. If you listen to the self-titled album and then Young Prayer, you can really hear how he has evolved as a singer between those albums. Reminds me of Campfire Songs, only without the background-noise.
• I have a hard time thinking of Person Pitch as his debut, because it was really his third. And it's not like Young Prayer was completely invisible; it was well received and actually noticed by a few people. So it's hard for me to think of Person Pitch as his debut. I think of it more as his "main" album. It's definitely the best of the three, and it was definitely the most popular. I might stop a little short of calling it his debut, though, especially because he had already done a lot with AC when he made it.
• Untitled 3
• oh yes yes. I love all of his albums. and Untitled 3 is in my top 2 of the whole album. I enjoy anything that Noah Lennox puts out though, to be quite honest.

• Yeah YP is a great album to just sit down and listen all the way through because by the end you can just kind of sink into Panda's sorrow. and yeah track 3 FTW thats what got me to buy the album
• Have you heard the live Japanese version of this?? It's incredible.
• where are you!
