AC to have a song in the Rock Band game??

edited April 2011 in Animal Tracks
I was looking up that new aminal band and found this bit of buried ac news. Should I put it on the news page? Is this of any cultural significance or will Rock Band be forgotten in three years? http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215869&page=2

• Actually, I'd kind of appreciate it if you didn't. Commercialization of beautiful music frustrates me.
• This kinda makes me angry... Meh.
• It makes me a saaaaaad panda.
• Whats so sad about it? I'm not a fan of rock band but i don't see whats so bad here. Even if AC is doing it for some money. I'd be doing it to if over half my fans downloaded my music from the interwebs instead of buying the CDs. And i'm not a hypocrit, i've only bought about half the AC music that i own. I'm just saying, i don't blame them for any commercialization. Heck, its theirs. (I haven't read that thread yet, so if im mistaken in some way, forgive me.)
• From what I read the public gets to vote what is on the setlist of the new "Indie" rock band. I do not believe AC is even involved yet, and may not know?
• You're right, Shallfish. It is theirs. It makes me sad nevertheless. It's just the world we live in.
• these time they are AC-hangin' !!! with mr. coop her!
• I stayed up until 2 am playing rock band with my best friend and her little brother once. I wore my voice out. It was really fun.
• i don't get why you people are sad its not like animal collective is going to "sell out" or something i mean they've had plenty of songs in commercials and uh rock band's pretty fun
• i want an ALL AC rock band / guitar hero / whatever... imagine doing slippi or cuckoo cuckoo! haha!
• You would expect them to put something from MPP on there but how would you control that with drums/guitar/bass/keys/vox??? Impossible, so they'd have to put something from Straw or Feels, but people wouldn't like that as much! Do the guys themselves even handle stuff like this? Or does the record label? Because when I heard they were on Skins I was thinking "I don't they would do something like that if it was up to them..."
• The record label was definitely behind the Skins thing. MTV gets all the rights to a bunch of labels and can use their stuff in almost any show, I believe.

•
all instruments are replaced with bleepy bloopy button pressing machines
If only!
• shit if you really want the bleepy bloopy go buy a sampler, or steal it if you're broke i think its dumb that they might be in rockband in most of their songs the guitars are run through effects and what not until you can't really tell its a guitar, from all the layers and they've never been a band that uses guitar solos so i just don't get it. i'm all for the artist trying to bring the music to a larger audience and make it more well known so more people can digest it or whatever, the internet certainly takes money away from bands every day, so im not looking down on them if they're trying to make some dollhairs but i just don't understand it
• no it doesnt make sense but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be extremely fun!
• very fair point, dude. I just wanted to say to you, thedude, that I saw your post #100 and it made me happy! I don't know why I didn't comment when I saw it and i'm not sure where it is now so i'm just going to say that here!
• It seems like that any of their songs would be difficult to translate to Rock Band. I'd be interested to see how it would turn out. Also, I'd be surprised it the guys consent to that. I thought they hated too much fame.
• Like someone said in the SKINS thread, sometimes they don't have a say in it, and their record label does. saccharinesheen (boy your name is hard to spell, im just gonna call you shine, if you done mind.) I don't think songs that are poppy like My Girls would be hard to translate, in fact, i wouldnt be surprised if that was the only song used.
•
i wouldnt be surprised if that was the only song used.
Sad but true.
• don't hate on my girls! nah but there are very few animal collective songs that would work, and i doubt my girls would be one that would. while it is the most accessible, pretty much all of mpp is too complex/has too much abstract instrumentation that it couldn't work. maybe something off sung tongs or feels would work but thats not their most popular so aaa
• i can't believe my girls is an indie hit song... that is so weird because in my mind rabbit was in 04 and grass was in 05 and peacebone in 07 etc but none of them are even close to my girls even if all combined together!
• I guess its because its one of those songs that are easy for everyone to listen to, despite their preference.
• cause its pretty universal mang slick production, bright, sing-alongable vocals, and an earnest sentiment that is hard to disagree with. i will always love my girls, but i guess i understand those core ac fans that don't
• i guess i feel that same way about a lot of their songs... i mean rabbit is just this super catchy pop song! but i guess the begin and end would ruin that for some... same with the yelling / yelping in grass / peace bone? [also i think some find the noises at the begin annoying which cracks me up!] you'd think summertime clothes would have done just as groovy and brother sport too? ... i mean among most they did but nothing compared to my girls... i wonder why!
• It's catchy, dude. And I've got 0 hate for My Girls, I just know that AC has a catalog filled with pieces that have far more depth.
•
cause its pretty universal mang slick production, bright, sing-alongable vocals, and an earnest sentiment that is hard to disagree with. i will always love my girls, but i guess i understand those core ac fans that don't
Don't get me wrong bro, i love it too. i wasn't hating on it at all, just explaining that its probably the only song that would get the deal, and that is sort of dissapointing.
• oh no i dont think you guys hate it (i hope not) but yeah i definitely feel you if i had it my way there would be an animal collective: rock band with their whole catalogue!
•
It's catchy, dude. And I've got 0 hate for My Girls, I just know that AC has a catalog filled with pieces that have far more depth.
that is exactly how I feel, Dave. Well said.
• is my girls the equiv. of radiohead - creep? nada surf - popular? men without hats - safety danse? etc!
•
"]is my girls the equiv. of radiohead - creep? nada surf - popular? men without hats - safety danse? etc!
no! my girls may be sort of popular but its not THAT popular. oh and it isnt a shitty song like creep. if i wrote a list of my favorite ac songs, my girls would be there somewhere, can't say the same for radiohead
• that's funny that you say that dude because I was going to say, yeah its like creep! Because I like creep! But it gets too much attention because radiohead makes much better songs than that...I guess I have more against creep than I do against my girls though.
• i don't really like either of the songs i don't like creep because it was the first song i heard by the them and i did not like it at all. i kind've decided not to listen to radiohead after that but a couple of years ago a friend was playing some of their other music and i felt pretty dumb for being so closed minded. i don't really like my girls because the lyrics are very repetitive, i like the way the sounds that make up the song build, but thats about all.
•
i don't really like my girls because the lyrics are very repetitive
That's the best part!
• thats just like your opinion, man
• heh i was kidding but it does make it rather unique. it's almost like a chant there's something about it that I really enjoy but i know y'all don't share, like, my opinion man
•
• early Panic = CHANT! <!-- s>__< --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" /><!-- s>__< --> it's fun live when everyone in the audience does the WOO! for mah girly gurls! you have to see it to believe shit!
• "will Rock Band be forgotten in three years?" soon enough we'll know! oh god! NOT LONG NOW
• at least AC won't be forgotten!!
• it almost kinda feels like they have! by the indie mainstream public!
• yeah it's true that they don't get as much attention as they once did.... it's a shame. they're still one of the most original bands i've ever heard
