2008 Interview with Avey and Panda

edited April 2011 in Animal Tracks
I stumbled across this interview today. I'm not sure if you guys have seen it before. It's from 2008 but it looks like it was just uploaded in february. Anyway, the interviewer doesn't seem to know much about Animal Collective. He asks some pretty lame questions. It's kind of funny to see Dave and Noah's reactions to some of them though. It starts out pretty awkward, but they seem to ease into it after a bit. There's 5 parts to it:

• the guy really probably hasn't heard their music. there is a ton of awkwardness going on here.
• I saw parts of this before. I like how Avey Tare says he's the dark cloudy one and Panda Bear is the Sunshine guy. Haha. Made me laugh. It also made me think that it's a similar dynamic to that of Lennon/McCartney.
• where deeks = george and geo = RINGO! even though there is a little bit of geo in george!
• Why does every group get compared to the Beatles? They were a good group, but I just don't think they're the gold standard for personalities in a band. I think Deakin's more like John Entwistle.
• noah's sort of the dennis wilson of the band! (avey's words! NOT MINE!) uh!
• AND THE CHARLES MANSON CONNECTION! it all comes back to Him!
•
Why does every group get compared to the Beatles? They were a good group, but I just don't think they're the gold standard for personalities in a band. I think Deakin's more like John Entwistle.
a "good" group? oh lawd
• Do you think they were a bad group? Lol
• heh no it's just a bit reductive for pretty much the most influential and popular band of all time. the lead songwriters were pretty distinct and the other two also had personality. the similarities are really shining now as deakin's coming out with some solo stuff and writing songs. who knows, maybe geo will make his own octopus's garden!
• I understood what you meant, I was just being a smart ass. I don't dislike the Beatles, and I respect what they brought to popular music (which was a lot of joy), but even though I've listened to 'em quite a lot, I'm not the biggest Beatles fan and I felt no need to emote over them. On second thought... The Beatles were the BEST EVER, EVER, EVER! They were so magnificent that my ears evaporated the first time I heard their music, and now I can never hear anything again but I don't want to because it would ruin the memory of the first time I heard "I Wanna Hold Your Ham". That was the name, wasn't it? I can't remember, it's been so long. I'm sorry Dude, it's totally not personal. I'm just a smart ass. xD For the record, my favorite Beatle is George by several kilometers, and despite my snarky comment, I think the comparisons of Deakin and Geo to George and Ringo, respectively, are appropriate. Interestingly enough, I'm pretty sure my favorite member of the Collective is Deakin, too. I hope he does, Octopus' Garden is my jam.
• O IM TAKIN IT PERSONAL *whips out brass k'nuckles*
• though in regards to ac it was DEEKS that was dead! so weird that it was a thing and then it became an ACTUAL thing... nobody could of told you better! nothing is quite what it seems in twin deeks!
• Talk about 80s.
• MEN WITHOUT HATS! watch out... they're coming BACK!
• And this time, they've got hats. Oh, shit!
• Each band is good for different reasons. The way every band works together is different. I'd like to say that I was not comparing. All I was saying was that Avey Tare and Panda Bear's is to Animal Collective as Lennon and McCartney's is to the Beatles. The two main song writers, each one bringing a complementary feel to the others sound.
• I agree with you on that, Vincey. Not saying they are LIKE the Beatles.
• You were noting the similarities in personal dynamics, not the sound of each group. That much is clear. If that doesn't qualify as a comparison, however, then nothing else does either, since saying that they're similar is a dictionary definition of a comparison. I've just heard the whole "Oh, they've got a Lennon/McCartney thing going on" several times too many (including one particularly irksome mention in a group that I played with for awhile) for me to not be a little bit irritated by it. My apologies. It's not you, it's me.
• the best is when there is a YOKO {oh no!] that breaks up the band! haha!
Whoops. I wanted to emphasize that I did not compare their sounds. I am glad it was clear though. The comment in my first post was rather uninteresting as well. I wasn't suggesting anything with it and I honestly don't see any reason why I needed to bring Lennon/McCartney into this.
• No, you had every right to bring whoever you wanted to into this. Making the comparison is perfectly valid. I feel as if I've infringed upon your opinion space by being a bit of a douche. I've just got to remember that if I don't have anything positive to say, I'd probably be better off just not saying it. I'm sorry.
• yeah i try and filter my more negative side on this board... many times i think of stuff to say and realize [hey! that's kind of a downer? don't post that!] so i don't! most of the time! it is hard to not bring out the bad vibes from time to time but it is better to work against it!
• Oh, for sure. Half of the snide comments I think of don't escape the confines of my head, but the ones that do require letting go and damage control.

That much is clear. I don't like to state what I feel is obvious that much. I just don't want you to feel like you have to be "positive" towards me. Don't hold back! And I reject your second apology.
• Lol! Well, thanks, but I'm going to be positive toward you no matter what you think, so suck on that, motherfucker. Oh, wait...
• No! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" />
• ^hey davey! that was 1776!!! eyahhhhh!
• Brotherduck! 1779 is no fun at all. 3 years AFTERWARD? I've missed my chance! There will be no state of G.O.! Truck by knife!
• the heck are you talking about!
• Of all people, I thought you'd understand. That makes me a saaaaaad panda.
• look into the bare hell!
