Which do you like more? I'm just now getting into AC, so I want to start with some more accessible stuff.

  • i like person pitch way more than mpp i don't really know which is most accessible either could be argued, but i suggest you start with a few songs my girls grass take pills fireworks someday i'll grow to be as tall as the giant winter's love summertime clothes those are just some suggestions and if you'd rather listen to something more cohesive than listen to the water curses EP, you could probably get the songs i listed on youtube if you'd rather not download them
  • Yep, I'd have to agree. It's close- they're both incredible albums, but Person Pitch would be my opinion for the better album..! I've been sending my friend some Animal Collective songs for the first time, and so far, she's liked songs like Grass, Taste, My Girls, What Would I Want? Sky, Summertime Clothes, and Peacebone. I'd say try listening to Take Pills or Good Girl when you're checking out Person Pitch. Good luck! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol.gif" alt=":D" title="lol" /><!-- s:D -->
  • Honestly, I'd recommend Sung Tongs for a first album. It was the one that I first listened to, and it's pretty accessible. It's a little more spare than MPP, Water Curses, and other late 2000s stuff, but not as spare as Campfire Songs. A solid middle ground, the way I see it.
  • i prefer mpp but they both are brilliant albums honestly it depends on what kind of music you listen to
  • I'd recommend Person Pitch, Sung Tongs, and Merriweather. I'm currently trying to convince a skeptical friend of the virtues of Panda Bear (and Animal Collective) and have been mainly drawing from Person Pitch. However, so far at least, I've been spectacularly unsuccessful.
  • the dude is right, its really all about what kind of music you listen to, just dive in wind song, i'm sure you'll like one song
  • Comfy, I hear where you're coming from (believe me, I gave a friend a copy of MPP and Feels and all he said was that it was too scattered, which makes zero sense to me), but some people just don't like AC or other music. It could be that there's something about their music they find unattractive, but it seems more likely that they just don't hear that special, human ingredient that separates AC's music from the music of others, in the same genre and more broadly. Most people can't hear that well, at least in a musical sense. [Edit:] That includes many musicians, too, unfortunately.
  • Dave, yeah it is difficult. I've got my (tongue-in-cheek) blog dedicated to convincing my skeptical friend, but (so far at least) he remains unconvinced. I think part of the problem is that AC can be a tad inaccessible. Once you're onboard, they're amazing, but until then, they can appear quite off-putting. I think someone like Thomas Pynchon might be similar - (slightly) difficult to get into, but immensely rewarding.
  • Dose your friend. Put on Forest Gospel. Have a good terrified, screaming run through the neighborhood with him. Problem solved?
  • Worth a shot!
  • Hahaa, that's something I'd like to see..! The first time I heard that song, I was going to bed and had my iPod on shuffle (I hadn't listened to Hollinndagain at all yet). I was just about to fall asleep when Forest Gospel came on. Not only did I jump right out of my bed, but I listened to the whole album, and had nightmares for half of the week. I think there's a lesson to be told there.. xP
  • Don't listen to Forest Gospel while you're going to sleep? Or listen to Forest Gospel if you want nightmares?

  • My first album was Feels and the first time I listened to it my body gave me the weirdest most intense feeling i've ever had haha it was that good to me. easily one of the best albums ever. Oh ya and I was in my car at the time and apparently I was so blown away an old guy came up to me and asked me if I was ok haha.
