Like Or Love a Song Thread

edited November 2011 in Animal Tracks
The Like Or Love a Song Thread will go as follows, you will answer why you think "_______" is an above average song or below average song, and what makes this so. After you answer why you will propose another song which someone will state the above. (Above average songs are in the top 50% of AnCo songs and vice versa for below ave. songs. The below average songs are ones you like and above ave. songs are ones you love) Example- P1: What do you think of Bees P2 (Me): I think of it as below average for AnCo, I do not like the way that it moves, the song seems to be moving nowhere, and maybe that could be a good thing. It also seems thin because the struming is not as dynamic as the stuff on Sung Tongs, however it is still a decent song in my opinion because of Avey's vocals and the unique structure and layers within. I like it. What are your opinions on Good Lovin' Outside?

• All I wanna say is that Bees rocks. That corrective is all about perspective, my subjective Collective detective.
•
What are your opinions on Good Lovin' Outside?
WAYYYYYY below average for me i'd say this is my least fave sung tong song even! it just glosses past my mind and doesn't stick for me for some reason i guess i can't really explain it that well! sorry! i like this idear though... talking about specific songs... so many that don't get enough attention! what would you say for... ANOTHER WHITE SINGER! yr justa!
• I think Another White Singer is catchy as hell. Ah, uh, ah, uh, ah, uh, ah, uh, ah, uh. I had this in my head for about ten days end over end. Its length actually helps its cause, and compared to the other short songs on Danse it trumps all but A Manatee Dance for me. I still think it is good in its own unique and strange way, and I love it and do not know exactly why, It sounds like Freak-Pop to me. What do ya think about Mr. Fingers as a song?
• I like Mr.Fingers a lot. It is one of my favorites on ODDSAC and has good rythym and like a creepy but enjoyable kind of feel. What do you think about Daffy Duck?
• I LOVE Daffy Duck. I think the 2nd half of feels is so underrated. What do you guys think of Untitled off of Spirit?
• really bothers me that he didn't bother giving it a title just give it a damn name! <!-- s>__< --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" /><!-- s>__< --> but yes... it has a great mix of pretty and harsh strange sound what about the LEMMING TRACK of spirit? every one whistlin!
• I think it's quite pretty and the way it transitions into La Rapet is incredible!!!!! Ice Cream Factory?
• Ice Cream Factory I would have liked a lot more, but I hate the quality of Crack Box, also seems a little more special compared to the other songs of that era. It sounds like Feels to me. It is on that middle area where I'am not loving it but definitely liking it. . Wudabout Avey's Ghost of Books (my favorite off Down There)
• Hmmm, i like ghost of books but Oliver Twist is my favorite song off of Down There A Musician and a Filmmaker?
• Panda being Panda, very bassy and ambient in all the right ways, it is a precursor to something like Search For Delicious. I Remember Learning How to Dive!!!
• It's not a favorite of mine, but I do like it, and listen to it often.. I think Vashti sings it very well, although I would've loved to hear it sung by Avey or Panda. Throwin' the Round Ball?
• Better than Runnin' the Ball, you can pick up some major yardage. ...and the song sounds good too, brings up some childhood memories of playin' in the back yard, and someone breaking their nose. (upside down ?)Te Gusta De Soto De Son?
• By the way peacefish, this is a really cool thread. i think campfire songs is best enjoyed when listened as a whole piece, from queen in my pictures to de soto de son. i don't think i've ever really listened to it by itself. the lyrics of the song are very cryptic, i can never decide what is going on with the marshmallow people. for me this is one AC song i don't really care for How about Pride and Fight? oh oh oh oh....
• Pride and Fight, very interesting. Hollinndagain is my least favorite of Animal Collective albums but the first half is not the half where it goes wrong, in my eyes at least. I has a unique structure and interesting dynamics, and I like the vocals on this more than other stuff on Hollgain, but I would prefer something like Meet the Light Child, it just sounds better in my mind. Are you In the Singing Box? Because I am!
• I have no idea what that is <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/sad.gif" alt=":(" title="sad" /><!-- s:( --> but te gusta graze?
• Yeah, I really like that one. Although I think the first part is a bit under appreciated. What about I Think I Can?
• I Think I Can is possibly my favorite song off of Fall Be kind.. Panda's voice is so incredible~ (: What do you think of My Favorite Colors? ^^
• haha! that one is such a lemming! but in a very FUN way! sometimes lemmings can be really not much of anything but when they have a sense of humor to it or just something a bit different i can diggit! i'm very into the idear of strange choices in lemming tracks and intro / outro / interludes / segues / etc! what about the biggie feels lemon: MUST BE TREEMAN (i just like the muffins, man!) oh god?
• Something in my mind wants to say Must Be Treeman should have been longer because I really like its transition half way through, but after that I wish it would have went into something that sounded like a 7+ minute Danse jam like Meet the Light Child or Ahhh Good Country. Radiohead like? Maybe? Two Sails on a Sound? Because it is the only track off HCTI that I love and not like.
• It's a little bit much for me.. I honestly prefer Hey Light, Native Belle, and of course, Slippi! Speaking of which, how do you feel about Native Belle? c:
• The really energetic tribal tunes are my favorite songs in HCTI. I prefer Hey Light though. Ahhh Good Country?
• what is a lemming?
• Ahhh Good Country is one of my favorite Danse tracks. It's a little bit more accessible. Pretty awesome Slippi?
• my fave AC song of all time!!!! if you can believe it! the song that got me into them! way back in 2003! just so out of control and jovial and the jubilation! raw energy! manik dreams! and that lovely celebration and mellow coda! SWEET ROAD?
• Sweet Road is their best Lemming. One of my favorites off Sung Tongs despite it's length. Reminds me of selling Sno Kones when I was a kid. Much better than Lem-On-Aid. Infectious guitar in this song also makes it one of my favs. Mouth Wooed Her? (Wadder) (Water)
• I love Mouth Wooed Her it's really catchy and probably one of my favs on ST. I played it in the car with my mom once and she said to turn it off because it was making her brain feel weird hahahahaha. But seriously, no one answered my lemming question. And.. Bluish??
• Love Bluish. One of my favorite transitions in AC, from Daily Routine to Bluish The first half of that album's track order and transitions are amazing #1?
• One of my favies on Jam, originally it wasn't but it's definitely has grown on me and now I think it holds up even better than most of the songs on that album. Also love how they daringly played it on Conan's show. I See You Pan?
• THAT SONG IS SO AWESOME. Forest Gospel?
• Incredible. The drumming is so energetic and gives it a tribal feel. Visiting Friends?
• blinky, a lemming is just one of their shorter songs that doesn't have much structure, i could be wrong tho that is just how i interpret it. Visiting Friends was the first song i heard off of Sung Tongs and i have always enjoyed it. the acoustic guitar strumming makes for a nice rhythm and the abstract sounds are a nice touch. the effect on Avey's voice is great and i've always thought the lyrics to be pretty deep. i always wondered what panda did on this song tho... how about Fried Camp? if you haven't seen oddsac than In The Singing Box. (i think we skipped over that)
• Fried Camp: There is so much going on, and so many wierd and abstract noises I find it hard to follow but find it one of the most interesting songs I have ever listened to. No way to describe it besides FUCKING MAD!!! <!-- s>__< --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" /><!-- s>__< --> In The Singing Box: I like Danse over HCTI and Hollinndagain and ITSB is a great reason why. To me it sounded more like Spirit and what not, but I love the way they use the bassy vibes with fun and perky beats. Tikwid?
• Oh, I love Tikwid. <!-- s:heart: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/heart.gif" alt="" title="heart" /><!-- s:heart: --> It's a great song, easily one of my favorites- the whole People EP is amazing! People is the only song from that EP that hasn't been talked about yet on this thread! What do you think of it?
• i have such a tie to that song... after Feels came about i kept yelling about PEOPLE <!-- s>__< --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" /><!-- s>__< --> (always with the angry face!) and was damn worried about what happened to that song... so when it finally came about it was strange to hear it all FEELS-izized or whatever... still a fantastic track but i had built it up so much in my head... no way could it have lived up to the beast that i imagined! but i still love the simple-ness to the singing and the RAGE of just yelling about PEOPLE and what that could even mean! though having a live / 2nd version... on a 4 track EP where one song is a lemming... was pretty dang weird of a choice... what happened to SPONGE FLUKE? and what about that song! or TUVIN (THROAT SONG!)
• i love the throat, it is so different from the majority of the sung tongs tracks and i really wish it would've made the final cut definitely would've added to the freak folk tag that sung tongs carries. panda and avey must have practiced that song a lot to nail all the different parts.it sounds like something people sang around the campfire hundreds of years ago. to go along with the missed song tungs Don't Believe The Pilot
• oh lord! that was such an amazingly fun deranged song when it just popped up... covered in frogs too! ... and then you think of tuvin and it feels just utterly wrong that these songs were LOST! and never got the studio shiny sheen and put on an album or at least an EP or b-side! in pilot when they make the noises it cracked me up so much one more lost song (if you know it)... PLAYPEN!
• playpen is another awesome song that has been left out. im not too sure which era it belongs too but it would've fit nicely on spirit danse or indian. its got an ambient texture to it and the main loop is hypnotizing, i really want a studio version where avey could be more understood or maybe just a thick vocal effect. sleeper factory
• This song should have been on Prospect or Tongs it is AnCo's easiest listen and for some reason it sounds like Brit Pop or something, I love it and wish songs like this get their own album in the future. Safer, BUT PLEASE STATE IF IT SHOUD HAVE BEEN ON STRAWBERRY JAM!!!
• Safer should have been on Strawberry Jam. It fits with the rest of the songs and would've been a great track maybe on like 5 or something where Jam gets a bit darker. I love Safer. It's easily their best b-side and it's incredible live. No question there. One of the best AC tracks
• Tabelz didn't list another song, so I'll just use Safer as well! (I'm totally using that as an excuse, I love the song so much, I might've critiqued it anyways c:) Safer is quite possibly on my recently updated list of my favorite songs of all times. Its so diverse, and it progresses so nicely. The length of the song makes it seem almost like two songs in one, which I love, and I definitely agree that it should've been on Strawberry Jam! I think it would go well around the same place in the album as For Reverend Green/Fireworks/#1. The song as well has even helped me manage a really tough time in my life.. It's always been a comforting song to me, even though it may not seem that way.. Kindle Song?
• Kindle Song has such an awesome creepy vibe to it. Seriously try playing it in the dark <!-- s:o --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eek.gif" alt=":o" title="eek" /><!-- s:o -->. Definitely one of their darker songs. ODDSAC has such a great soundtrack... The whole movie resembled a bad acid trip in the best way. Since we're on ODDSAC... Screens?
• I think Screens is what made ODDSAC not a sound track and it makes the Album more of an audio only album. Panda Bear has great vocals on here and we here the acoustic side of AC once more and we have not had such a chill song since Feels or Sung Tongs in my opinion. Just brilliant how both the electronics and acoustics come together, I love it. Queen In My Pictures?
• It's pleasant. Atmospheric, as most of Campfire Songs is. Evocative, good music for thinking or daydreaming to. I like it, but not as much as I like Covered in frogs, covered in frogs, covered in frogs, covered in frogs?
• imagine being quite literally covered in frogs! slimy! well as i said before both pilot and covered in frogs i tie together as just being super amazing fun songs! that infamous video of them performing it some record store and REALLY going for it cracks me up... esp. the idear of someone thinking "this is AWFUL! what is this!" and where it's going! COB WEBS!
• I like it better than Water Curses at this point. It's cool, but nothing compares to Street Flash. Banshee Beat? (my all-time favorite)
• Banshee Beat is one of their most incredible songs. No doubt about it. Avey's vocal range is so incredible, especially in the second half of the song. Honestly, I have to say Grass is the #1 track off of Feels for me, but Banshee Beat is a close second. In The Flowers?
• In The Flowers... Love the flow of it. It's really dreamlike and pulls you into a different world. If I could just leave my body for a night - BOOM! Though I always thought the noise in the beginning muttered "I'm a bitch I'm a bitch" over and over in a robotic voice haha. Flesh Canoe? (I love the acoustic version of this especially)
•
"I'm a bitch I'm a bitch" over and over in a robotic voice haha.
<!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol2.gif" alt=":lol:" title="lol" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol2.gif" alt=":lol:" title="lol" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol2.gif" alt=":lol:" title="lol" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol2.gif" alt=":lol:" title="lol" /><!-- s:lol: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/lol2.gif" alt=":lol:" title="lol" /><!-- s:lol: -->
• Hahaha do you hear it!?
• Haven't heard it, but I'll listen for it next time. Just struck me funny.
