Animal Collective 2009

edited April 2009 in Reverb
As most of you might be aware both of the Animal Collective concerts in Ireland this year are
strictly over 18's
. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/mad.gif" alt=">__<" title="mad" /> Ive been an Animal Collective fan for years and have introduced my friends and many others to their amazing music and only since i turned 16 have i been allowed to go to concerts, hoping that this year I could finally go and see Animal Collective play live, but no such luck. So many young people have an interest and love of this band but now because of this restriction they (including me) cannot go and see them play, and maybe we wont get the chance to again. I don't expect any change to be made but i really wanted to highlight this issue as i am extremely disappointed over it

• well i def. understand not wanting AC shows to be +21 but under 18? i mean come on do you really want some 14-15 year old punks ruining the show for you? even 16/17 is cutting it close! i for one support keeping the kiddies out!
• that is really lame. everyone should have the right to listen and enjoy their favorite bands.. I'm sixteen as well but the Animal Collective show I'm going to in May is all ages, I can't wait.
• sure you can! if anything you should have to wait 2 more years! what's next... 12 year old zappa fans? ... 9 year old avant-jazz fans? it's too much! TOO SOON!
• It sounds like your saying that just because your a certain age you cant appreciate great music?!! Thats so stupid! Young people of any age enjoy music just as much as those "over 21" or "over18", some even moreso, and so they should be able to see whoevr they want!!! What harm are a bunch of "kiddies" going to do to you eh?! Its not going to affect the quality of the music, affter all, i thought that it was the music we were talking about? So realli, stop being such a scrooge, and realise its for the music appreciation that people would b going for, not for analysing the audience!!!! AND theres no guarantee that the over 18's wouldn't act like total frikin assholes at the show either
• you shall understand when you get older and see all these young kiddies and feel all old and unhip! it'll happen to you! come back here in 10 years and tell me how you feel! i bet in a decade you won't even like AC any more it sickens me!
• Why would anyone feel all unhip??!! (unhip? ) Id think of it as bein amazin that the music could appeal to anyone of any age!! And to be honest what your sayin is bein WAY too self concious! Who gives a shit what people think, if they would think your unhip?! Its sad to worry abou stupid insignificant stuff like that! Just forget lil whims like that and enjoy! Haha! And no, i love music far too much to just go off of bands, once i like a bands music thats it, even if a bands music deteriorates in later years you cn always still like the earlier work. Oh and please stop referin to ppl as "kiddies", i know 16 years olds more mature than 25 year olds and its quite unfair to sweep us all up with the same brush.
• says Poke-me-im-squishy ! haha... no i'm somewhat messing around / being a bit over the top about it... i used to think it didn't bother me if bands (or say a show like the simpsons!) got not as good over time ... that it wouldn't take away from past glory... but with a band like radiohead and being so into them 97 thru 2005 or so (esp. 00-03)... and then not even buying The Eraser when it came out OR rainbows (but still liking both well enough) well damn it just saddens me! it sickens and saddens me... so what other bands do you like (i gotta keep up with the KITTIES these days!)
• Hmm yea i see whatcha mean all tha same! Ugh im into WAY too many bands to name tbh!! And i like basically every genre, apart from most pop n r'n'b, *shudders* kant stand half of what people my age think is "good music". Wel I kinda change around dependin on my mood, so im really into acoustic and some folk music at the mo, like Damien Rice, the Dodos, Lousie Attaque, Wallis Bird (Shes AMAZING!) etc etc. But Ive always loved bands like Nirvana, S.O.A.D and Rage Against The Machine. Kitties? MEOW! So what kinda bands are you into apart from Radiohead? I gotta keep up with the "Unhip" people these days
• ^ Kittie's got no friends at all. I guess it depends on the band, but I suppose that if you're underage it is a pain if you can't go and see the band you like. Maybe you'll make it to the show somehow.
Also radiohead are whinny and blows--and the eraser, that was just garbage imo
But to each their own.
• Ah man, that would totally have pissed me off. Luckily by the time i finally got tickets to go see my first AC show i was already 18. But i do feel bad for ya lad, it sucks to be denied access to the bands you really like because your " too young". And as far as the crowd goes, i dont what age they are, as long as they dont rain on my parade.
• Louise Attak! damn a young person who likes a band i've only heard one person mention ever... and i only knew of it because of high school French class! that's crazy! ... they have this one song that i esp. like ... i can't even remember the damn name... something with vent/wind... i think it's the 2nd song on their 2nd album... i should look it up (but not now) really fun song... with crazy violins or something... other bands i like besides AC & Radiohead (who are not whinnny-ing horses!): Super Furry Animals! Cloud Cult! The Mae Shi! Gang Gang Dance! dEUS! Slipknot! t.A.T.u.! Sleepytime Gorilla Museum! Papa Roach!
• G.O. [!] i personally think you're a little nuts. animal collective isnt something that you can just horde to yourself, or even your age group for that matter. Im 18, and like birdee, just got my first tickets to see the collective. I dont see age as being a big idea at all, and i personally find it a little offensive that you think its something for only an elite group of people. you really cant forget that the animal collective initially made music to emulate the wonders of being young, and i doubt they would say its supposed to mean anything drastically different now. just relax dude, and enjoy the music
• It's kind of like my friend Andrew (fair to say hes responsible for getting me into AC) who is a mega hipster, we have played music together in the past, we enjoy wide ranges of indie, electronic, noise, experimental, etc. etc. He is a huge Indie Torrent and former Oink guy, who spends much of his time browsing torrents and torrent forums, discussing, organizing, and arguing music. The general idea of how strict and "elite" as you would say...hipsters are in the indie world of torrent sites, and record stores can seem sort of "assholeish". (Not putting a label on a whole group, just individuals) They just seem sort of above the other crowd of music lovers. I once mentioned this to Andrew, and he agreed completely, he's like yeah...im a hipster, yeah so are the guys who run Indie Torrents, and the general community with it, yeah we are assholes a lot of the time. Then i didnt care as much, because i realized it's just their nature...
• i admit i kinda played this up just to get a bit of argie/discussion going on here hahah! ... though i do somewhat feel it too... but it's more a sign of my own fears of becoming some old duck! when yr all into hip stuff when you are young it's great but then it's years later and you see people years younger than you were even when you were young and thought you were into some pretty hip stuff! i mean compared to others at the time in high school back in 2001 i felt pretty hip liking The Strokes / Hives / White Stripes / At the Drive In / Queens of the Stone Age... and hell even radiohead (this school had REALLY out of it people!) ... just to name a few... or listening to college radio... but then to be in your 20s and you got people who are 15 liking stuff like Animal Collective or Xiu Xiu ... it's just so damn strange... i don't know where i'm going with this! i lost my point long time ago...
• i totally get what you mean...but really you just sort of have to accept it. Just be quiet in the crowd among the strange 15 year old energetic bouncing kids, and enjoy it your way. Let them have your fun; and you, yours. Otherwise you'll be in essence what those younger kids can pretty much justly call...a dick. They'll be like...oh yeah, thats just that dick who thinks he's better because he's older. ...still i get what you mean.
• i gotta say i am glad some gigs 16+...the last thing i want is kiddies sitting about in groups talking loudly (so the 'likeomfgtotallycuteemoboi!!' standing near them can hear) about how awesome the band they are seeing is. it annoys me. you can go see the bands you like when you appreciate how good the music is! ever think the age restriction is there for a reason.... laters...
• and the debate ragers on! long after the thrill of living has banged... like a GONG! girl!
