• I think of forum is really dieing. I don't know what it is but there just aren't as many posts going in the last few days, may week even. Do you guys notice it too? Have you found new fourms or been busy? Are topics just aren't as interesting anymore? Why are things as quiet as they are?
• I don't know... a lot of the key people here have been visiting less and less. TT and Wini seem to be coming less, we never see Phantom anymore, Derekcollectbone isn't really around, Cap'n Jake stopped posting. Same goes for a lot of the new members. It's really quiet around here.
• Phantom went home on vacation, and he's a boy, and boys are weird. Tiggles is on vacation in Maryland. I can't answer for Teetles. Me, I've got a 30 foot by 16 foot garden I'm planting and it's been too busy at work for me to spend much time online. I do stop in and do my moderator-y stuff to keep y'all safe from the freaks and voidoids. Things ebb and flow and no one knows why; the moon was waning, now it's waxing, maybe it'll get busy again. I am always available for pm'ing if someone needs me.
•
- How interesting: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/15131 I want to start doing that.
That made me sad that he died. But it was neat: you could go anywhere with that: a haiku a day, a doodle a day, anything.
Do you have to be crazy to be briliant?
I believe most brilliant people are crazy, but not all crazy people are brilliant. It seems to depend on what star your light falls on
Albert Einstein? What did he discover again?
Energy equals Mass times the speed of light to the second power. As well as other things. What are purple skinnies????
• purple skinny jeans! I'm home now, back in the glorious state of mine.
• It's a bit intimidating to post on a board that is constantly being updated. There is always just so much to read that I have to sit down for an hour to make sure I've read everything. I just don't have as much time as I used to for posting and responding. Plus my internet is the shits right now so I can't go online easily, and I have to re-load pages almost every time I open a new one. and such and such. i'm not going anywhere though, just can't be on as frequently as I would like.
•
- How interesting: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/15131 I want to start doing that.
This is a great idea, kind of reminds me of this: I really want to start doing something like this as well. If anything as a way to look back on my life and remember, on a day to day basis, how I felt, what I did, who I knew/saw, etc etc.
• Yeah, exactly. Wini mentioned a few creative ways you could it too, not just in a photo but a little drawing and such. Today I drew a picture of something that made me laugh but I'm not sure how long I could keep doing it ('cause I have other things that take time up in my day and drawing takes some time to do..) In that video you can see him get older. Imagine if he kept this up till he was like, 80 or something.
• Yeah it'd be wicked. Imagine watching yourself grow old in a few minutes. I think it would be really interesting to see a timelapse like that of someone going through puberty or from the age of like 13-23 or something. I'm sure most people's would be pretty awesomely interesting.
• that would be incredibly interesting. I more try to write every day and it's fun to see the developement of that but it is far different when you're talking about actually seeing yourself. It's like a visual journal. I think I might do that.
• I think I might do that too. I feel a bit inspired. Commitment is something I'm working on getting better at... Only thing I seem to be committed to these days is digging my own grave by smoking 1/2-1 pack a day. Bleck
• that's no good, skully. I've been pretty great at commiting though it is something i've always struggled with. Everyday (besides doing the daily, take care of my son stuff) I play the piano and guitar at least a half hour. I'm pretty happy about that.
• That's good, I wish I still had instruments to play but I had to sell my two guitars to pay rent a while back. I really want a new keyboard and I've been wanting to get a mixer and tables to mess around with and maybe DJ some parties. I really think artistic expression on a daily basis is one of the most life-enriching things one can do.
• I agree with that very much. My life was pretty empty before that. I hope you get to get some kind of musical instrument back in the near future!
• OHK!!! Just watched Flash Delirium video by MGMT! DISTURBED! ... I hate those puppets!
• -Hhhhang on!! What exactly does 'hipster' mean?!
• What does hipster mean? I think of it as a derogatory term for someone overly concerned with and involved in popular culture, usually a strain of popular culture which is semi-mainstream, purportedly marginalized, strictly defined and obeyed and fully adoptable (as if you could buy the whole shebang in a box). What's the context?
• edited April 2010
Well, a hipster is, in my definition, someone who pays lots of money too look like they're disheveled and homeless, has more than 1 record and doesn't own a turntable, sucks Pitchforks sac for every album they rate over 8, and talks endlessly about music and pop culture that they actually know nothing about.
• edited April 2010
I'm thinking a hipster is someone that tries to act as obscure as possible in order to fit it, while simultaneously saying they're trying NOT to fit in. Also when Grizz mentioned the record thingie, that reminded me I really, really need to buy a turntable D: Oh and also the Flash Delirium video I loved, no matter how freakydeaky it was! I love MGMT's new icy surfing sound, it's soooo gewd. o.o
• It's only a good purchase if you're going to use it often. Heed this warning or live with regret.
•
What's the context?

You got me into Foals, curses. When I saw their video I was like HIPSTERRRRRRSSSSS. But that doesn't mean that them being giant hipsters doesn't make me love them more.
I think I went insulting my own band in the thread I made for them in music. I read somewhere it was posers. I THOUGHT YOU MEANT HIPSTER LIKE, Coooooool people!... hahahahaah gosh, I am so confused!
• Just the clothing style. There are hipster clothes and hipster 'tudes, and you definitely only want the clothes end of the bargain.
• well, the people that are sincerely that way (collect vinyl yet don't have a record player yet because they don't have the money, wear flannel and have a stylishly 'dirty' appearance, like reading pitchfork), I don't consider them hipsters.
• we all poop.
• It's just the thought that you're better than everybody because of your tastes (SOMETHING THAT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FOR EVERY PERSON). It grinds my gears.
•
It's just the thought that you're better than everybody because of your tastes .
I like it when those thoughts stay in people's heads and don't come out of their mouths. But when they do, I just think, you poop. Just like me! And the Queen! And a bear! ha ha! Neener-neener.
• I'm up to 255 posts. Thats quite a bit. I didn't even notice. I want money to buy marshmellows. I can't be bothered with my philosophy work on 'personhood'. I'll babble onto pages when I get home on what it means to be a person and the types of relationships. I want to hippie dance like MGMT!!! (youtube it) The orb
• Oh yeah I saw that! "You know those guys with white hair, white beards and like a backpack..." God Andrew and Ben are funny.
• i wear plaid, listen to indie, drink, smoke, take pictures, collect records although I have no player, make movies, stalk the internet, drive a car and go to music festivals. i'm pretty indie. but I love it. i kindof hate the term, because there are so many of them out there.... but i love the style hipster indie hesh kids have.
• I think some of the styles are really cool, and I am inclined to wearing some myself. LP's are cool to collect for the bigger version album art, I guess. And if you ever get a turntable you're prepared.
• they also sometimes come with posters and are magical to look at. I could qualify as a hipster in many ways, but I can't say that I really am one. I kind of hate that term because of it's negative connotations. I don't know, I tend to not hate people unless they deserve to be in jail, so it really bothers me to judge anyone, even if they are what some people consider 'insincere' or 'just trying to be cool'. I feel like I should say this, because deep down, I get really offended when the term hipster, or any 'group' of people are described in a negative way (except rapists, ect.). So I if I act out or sound offended or pissy or whatever, that is why. I hope you guys got what I was saying there.
• I understand. It's just the pretension of the "hipster" that really bothers me. The whole "You've probably never heard of them." persona is really unattractive to me.
• Self-questioning, questions about self, talk talk, it's all talk. Arguments. Agreements. Answers. Babble. Burble. Banter. Bicker. Brou-ha-ha. Chatter. chit-chat chit-chat chit-chat. In my mind, you have two options. You can act on your anger and sit on them and tell them they are frakking losers and are giving you a reason to get pissed off and so now they must EAT YOUR RAGE SANDWICH. This can be useful and cathartic! Or you can be witty and deflective and silly. Tell them you like porpoises. Or bird lips. Tell them you have a photographic collection of metro tickets torn into exact mathematical proportions that align you with Venus. woowooowooooooo Both options have merit. Don't ignore how they make you feel though, or play it down. It's not like it's going to go away. Explore it.
• That confused me Wini. http://jonsi.com/news/jonsi-covers-mgmt verrrryyy cool! I love the setting he has created here. Along with seeing AC live to see Jonsi live would be incredible.
• My thought: I always thought it was weird how the same language can have different vernaculars. Like how North Americans say 'the Movies' vs. how Australians and Brits say 'the Cinema'.
• I know they call soda 'pop' in Illinois. I'm not sure where else. What do you guys call soda?
• I call it soda sometimes. But mostly in Canada everyone calls it pop. Sometimes I call it soda pop. I think in Australia/UK they call it fizzy drink, am I right?
• In australia we say 'soft drink'.. and say cinema or movies - but more generally movies.
• Tomorrow, I am entering a talent show at my school doing freestyle drums. It isn't mandatory to watch, but all my friends (plus some random spectators) and maybe Noah Look-alike are going to be there. I'm so scared that I'm going to drop a stick or mess up or something.
• don't stop believingggg! Just have some confidence and know that you can do it, I know you can!
• Oh god I hope so.
• YOU CAN DOOO EEET GRIZZLES!
• Oh yeah, It didn't go too bad. All my friends were there, and Noah Look-alike came for the second half, and there were high fives all around after. I might get into the last round, we shall see. And now my thought is WHY ARE MY TRUSTY HEADPHONES STARTING TO SHORT OUT!? ;_;
• Yayy good work grizzles. I hope you make it t the last round.
•
And now my thought is WHY ARE MY TRUSTY HEADPHONES STARTING TO SHORT OUT!? ;_;
Did you wear them in the shower?
• No sir. But the wire is disconnecting at the jack, and so my left headphone is cutting out unless it's in the right position.
• I really like Song For Dan Treacy from MGMT! Loving it right now. So groovey. The whole album is fucking brilliant! I really don't like all these vegetable soups mums been making lately - they're kinda force feeding it to me everynight by making nothing eles but it - goodness! I have to paint a big picture for art within the next two weeks. I'm freaking out! I have to buy a canvas and a bunch of water colours (which I have never used before but am interested in using) and I have to figure out how to paint the scene of a train with a few people sitting in it and I haven't got many pictures to refer to and I am really worried I will stuff the whole thing up! And they're displaying it in the library when its done! AHHH! If anyone has pictures you've taken when you were inside a train could you post/send it to me so I have some sort of skeleton image I may be able to paint. It would really help a lot. last thought for now: I'm not sure drinking on a friday and going to work on saturday at 11am is a good idea... We shall see. hahaha. I've never had a hangover. I think. The first time I drank I hadn't eaten all day (cause I don't eat all that much jajaja) and the morning after I was at a record store and my fingers were all fumbling and one guy even asked if he could help me!? I think I was still tipsy or something.. I don't know. But I've planned things for tomorrow and saturday so hopefully getting to work should go well!
• I hope things do work out for you!! I have no train pictures, I am sorry. And I agree with the MGMT comment. This album is so much better than their first! Song for Dan Treacy is fantastic! But, honestly, I really hate how the first song starts out. It's probably my least favorite song on the album.
• You mean the surfy sort of bass guitar melody before Andrew sings the first lyric? Cause its a bit in your face? I have to disagree with you on that one, I really love Its Working. Its like preparing you for the rest of the album with some of the lyrics he sings. Is it just me or does Siberian Breaks remind you of Plink Floyd? This song is in a way, very straight forward, compared to their other stuff. Though it shifts between quite a 4 or 5 different melodies, it reminds me of Pink Floyd. I've only ever seen the movie The Wall, so thats all the music I've heard, but I kinda get that vibe from it... specially the first melody in the song.
• you're right, it is a bit Pink Floyd-y. I think the biggest band they remind me of though, is Led Zeppelin. They are no where near as good, as epic, of course, but his vocals have that going on at times. It's not because it's in your face; that it's working intro. I love in your face music! I haven't quite put my finger on why I don't like it. The whole song is my least favorite on the album. I'm not entirely sure why.
